Just an update - another meeting is now planned at 4.30pm. I am still evacuated and they reckon it might be another 24-48 hours before i can return to my flat, but I am getting conflicting info so who knows?
There is definately a cylinder(s) involved. The problem they have also is that because it was a petrol station before, they have nothing on record to show the tanks underneath were drained and so they need to check that also.
Can anyone tell me whether the church or printers had any fire damage, I would rather not disclose where i live but this would have some bearing. I am staying quite far away now and dont wanna journey down there unless there is access
I really appreciate the info so far

There's still an almost carnival atmosphere with neighbours out in the road chatting.

Minnie_the_Minx said:He said that about the petrol, that the hole underground should have been filled with concrete and there could still be fumes there even though it's not been a petrol station for years. Certainly don't remember anything happening after its sudden closure so it's quite feasible

Maybe some Lambeth bureaucrat didn't do their job right.
It looks as though the tyre centre has been operating without planning consent - an application (05/02347/FUL) for change of use from a petrol station to a tyre retailer and fitting centre submitted last July was only "validated" in February - presumably some key documents were missing. This was also turned down by the planners on 20 April.

Not sure I like all those people in the picture either. It looks even busier than normal with all those pedestrians

A Sainsburys would be nice there now!

Great photo's Billy, something definately to remember now.
A23 London - Brixton Hill closed both ways between the Lambert Road junction and the A205 Christchurch Road junction in Brixton, because of a building fire. Diversion in operation.
