Tron 2

So apparently Disney have surprised people by releasing a trailer for sequal to the famous 80s movie Tron.

Quality is pretty crap because its a cam job from some comic convention but the effects on the update of the classic bike chase scene looks

San Diego Comic-Con 2008 just revealed a BIG surprise courtesy of an old school property that’s about to get a big screen revamping.

We have just seen footage of a new “Tron” movie and yes, Jeff Bridges is back!

During a Disney panel that was ostensibly set up to promote “Race to Witch Mountain,” the studio waited until the very end to reveal their new version of “Tron.” And the new film has an official title, “Tr2n.” Yes, it is officially a sequel.

Since no casting or release date had even been announced for the film, the debut of fully completed footage, much less starring Jeff Bridges, caught everyone by surprise.

And it wasn’t just the fact that Bridges appeared in the teaser, the Oscar-nominated actor appeared to be playing two different characters — Flynn (from the original) and a younger version of himself.

I'm quite excited about the prospect of this although it's bound to end up being a load of old tosh with disney at the helm + according to IMDB it's not due out till 2011 :(.

Whats wrong with Disney? They put out quality children's films. Thanks to Disney and also Pixar. I can get at least two hours peace from my daughter.

Not sure about this. Normally I'd say no, not a good idea. But as it's Tron, it has a lot of potential - computers have advanced so much since 1983.

And what's wrong with Disney? They didn't do a bad job on the original.

The first one was about Firewalls Are Communism :D
Figure this one will be P2P is Al-Qaeda? ;)

This has been on the cards for a while.

Originally it was going to be Tron2.0 which turned out to be a video game that came out in 2003.

Look forward to seeing the trailer properly.

Yeah I suppose i shouldn't really moan about Disney / Pixar doing it, I'm just worried it will be a bit too family friendly & jokey (I'm thinking what Lucas did to the new Star Wars films). My memories of the original are that it was quite serious for a kids film but then I was alot younger then. Disney do seem to be mucking about with the film though according to - http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_h...sday-game-over-for-tron-s-first-director.aspx

Says they got the writers from Lost ( I hate Lost) in & a director who has only done adverts before while getting rid ofthe bloke who did the original after he had been working on it for five years. It also says the clip in the OP was made to try to raise excitement for the film to persuade the studios to get it made. So maybe it isquite a few years from completion if happening at all.

Good thing about this one is that expectations will be pretty low. Tron was v., but (let's be honest) kind of shit at the same time. So no 'perfect' original to spoil. I really hope they take this one and run with it.

I also read that there is some ground support to get this guy a cameo in the film.

tron was visually stunning back in the day.
but c'mon, let's be honest - it's a fuckin' crap film.
what the fuck was it about?
all i can remember is the bike scene...

and i hate LOST.
and all the actors and writers in it...

Tron rocked! I still like it now :). I think because it's so old, you almost forget the (now)substandard graphics and just sit back and enjoy. It's like popcorn for your eyes. I will look forward to the new one, but as it's not out until 2011, I guess we'll see how people feel about it by then.

Maybe we'll even have some kind of flying car by then like we keep being promised by all those old sci-fi movies :D.

That's all well and good, but it looks like it's not actually going to have a plot. :hmm: Has potential, but it will probably be a dull-as-fuck CGI fest with moments of awesome animated-brilliance that won't justify its existence.
I hope for better though!
