Top things to do with blackberries?

Actually, you could also make creme de mure. I'm macerating berries in gin which needs to be boiled up with sugar soon.

We went brambling Saturday morning and had to talk my wife into leaving it at two box fulls (about 1.5 kilos altogether). We picked the right time as an Eastern European family were arriving with dustbin sized containers just as we left. Made a massive crumble and have a litre of blackberry vodka developing in the fridge. She swears she won't waste any of the rest but I will start checking the remaining box full for fur in a few days. Last year we ended up with a whole freezer drawer full of bloody blackberries that never got used. I think I threw them out about April or May this year. The year before I made jam but there's still 3 jars uneaten in the cupboard. It's probably bloody alcoholic by now.

Do you have any Deep Heat?

I'm in that there London and they've been ripe for a couple of weeks.

Crumble is always good.
I have been eating blackberries for a couple of weeks - there are loads of the Walthamstow/Hackney/Leyton marshes - we are having blackberry crumble tonight:)

Usually drop my freshly picked ones in a bowl of salted water to get the worms out first......

Then cook them to make a compote

The blackberry and apple crumble season starts on August 23rd. I say so. That's my birthday treat.
and it must end before Hallowe'en because on that night the Devil pees on all blackberries and makes them inedible after that....

Michaelmas, not Halloween. They'll be well gone by Halloween.

As for the Devil pissing on them, that's only a mythical overlay to the fact that if you pick blackberries late in the season, they keep far less well and may have maggots (or worse still, wasps) inside them.
