Tog Rating for duvets?

so I've narrowed it down to either this one (trusted name but inc feathers):

or this one (suspiciously cheap?) and get some pillows too - although I can't see, with the all seasons what the split is?:

The all seasons ones are nearly always 9 and 4.5 I think

The viceroy pillows are very very cheap as well :hmm:

Feathers (JL one) will add some weight which is nice in the winter (I think so anyway)

We have just bought an enormo-bed and a wealthy in-law has offered to buy us a moving in present - so we thought we'd get a really really nice duvet after years of really crap ones.

So looking at these from M&S:

I'm not really sure which tog to go for. Obviously now it's getting warmer and our house seems to be really rather warm anyway (despite everyone warning us it would be cold?) but then obviously in winter we'd want something snuggly. My instinct says 10.5.

What's the best all round tog?

Since clicking on this link (suspicious google adwords in the url, hmmm) my disconnect.me tracking blocker has failed me and I'm getting quilt adverts all over the shop.

A suggestion: if you get one of those all-season duvets, get a second of the thinner layer, so you can have an 18 tog duvet. It's wonderful when it's very cold. And in summer, you can rotate the thinner layers, airing one while you use the other.

These are worth a read as well. Now I'm not sure whether all the facts are true or not, but I've seen the same thing about Siberian goose down from a few places

oh interesting.... I had thought Siberian was the higher quality - also the Hungarian is cheaper at the place I was going to order from! OH has a thing about Siberian but I'll show him that first link.

Of course, the people writing this are selling their own duvets etc. so I don't really know what the true facts are. Seems a bit of a grey area

Mentioned here as well

I can't find anything from people not selling duvets though

So it arrived yesterday - we got the matching pillows because we got it cheaper than we anticipated. I got the all seasons (thanks MtM). When it arrived it looked REALLY flat but overnight it has puffed up. We have both on at the moment but I think we'll drop down to 9 tog. I have had a lovely night's sleep! Feel like a queen! So just waiting for the toddler and baby to come to trash it - but still we'll have fun trashing as a family.

Anyone got a wool filled duvet?
Never heard of that, but I'm sure it would work well. Wonder if it would be heavier than feather/down, and possibly synthetic ones too? But I've got a recycled wool throw blanket (its really thin) which is nice and warm for lying on the settee reading, so maybe it'll be fine. Bonus points if the filling is made from recycled wool too.

If you do buy it it would be good if you could report back on what it is like. I've only recently bought a new feather and down one, so don't need to get one but useful for future replacement.

Will do.
I have a feather and down one that's extremely warm...great for bitterly cold winters. It's 12 yrs old now and it is great...but it is too hot.
I'll let you know what the wool one is like.

I have a wool one, Lupa — would definitely recommend it. Be warned though — it’s thinner than you’d expect. (Because wool is superior to feathers at heart retention). It’s ability to regulate temperature is much better than down, in my experience.

I recently had to return a mulberry silk set from John Lewis to my mum. Really liked those, decent heft to them but thin for the tog.

Update on the wool duvet.
It's really great. Lovely and warm. Not heavy at all. I have no heating on and the duvet is keeping me toasty.
It is thinner and doesnt look puffed up on the bed but I'm ok with that. I hot one that's bigger than my bed so it falls down the sides. Makes for no draughts.

I like to go up a size on duvets to stop the drafts.

We get ours from Primark. They're cheap and we only use them in winter so are reluctant to spend much on them.

I have fewer aches and pains when I stay warm. I cant stand a bedroom that has heat on full blast but I really love being warm once I'm in bed.
