Duvet experts. How do I stop getting spiked by goose feathers?

I was thinking of something like this -

It says 600 thread but doesn’t seem much different in price to other 400 thread ones so just wondered if there was any reason not to go 600 presuming it would be less likely to let the goose feather quills poke through. i.e. maybe the trade off is it’s less comfortable?

The higher the thread count the better the cloth.
Which means its going to be smoother and nicer. But really 400 or 600..not massivley different to feel. You'd want to be as aebsirive as the princess and the pea to notice.

Now...take 100 vs 1000 and you'd absolutely feel the difference.
😁

Thread count is complicated, high is sometimes marketing bullshit.

Only if you're duped into splashing out on over 1000 tc.
But reasonably priced 600tc is definitely nicer than muh lower thread counts. And can be very affordable.

Then again...My mother was telling me the other day that her mother made sheets out of flour bags. So really modern comforts are probably very much part of a more generally affluent society. And I don't mean to sound like a snob saying that. I can get 500 tc in Dunnes Stores for €15 these days.

I guess the trade off would be the fabric is heavier - at least that makes intuitive sense to me, more threads greater weight. Probably only a marginal difference, so unless you're sensitive to these things like the Princess and the Pea, you're probably OK with the higher count.

Have a read of the article - the use of multi-ply seems questionable to me so I'm not sure that 300(ish) isn't the ideal.

I have one pillowcase which was a gift and is 1000 count one (madly expensive from john lewis). It really is a different type of a thing, you can see the difference in that it has a denseness and almost like a shine to it, but when you touch it its really a totally different thing, smooth and heavy and delicious, but that one pillowcase is enough, i'm not in the market for a duvet cover that costs the same as a car.

Imo always get the best duvet you can afford. Decent sheets makes a big difference too (and a nice matress topper/cover!). I got some 100% organic cotton ones at LIDL that are still going strong. I doubt Id spend silly money on sheets tho, not when ebay and charity shops have great options. I have some second hand covers which are top quality.. guess im not squeemish :D
