So, kids, like, how was that for you? You've waited patiently and missed out on the Pfizer, dodged the shit one...and you got Moderna.

Tell us more. Like.

Well-known young person 2hats has started us off in another thread with this.

about 48 hours of great unpleasantness and 5 days of injection site related pain.

what left me feeling somewhere between a particularly bad night out clubbing and having been run over by a bus.

Now will you all stop hassling me?

Did you ask the mods if they could add Moderna to the options on the other thread?

I know you can't, but they have certain super-powers.

I didn't. I am in doubt of their super-powers.

Let the young people post their tales together here.

It'll be fine.

I think it's going to be fairly rare right now as I suspect they are holding this back for under 35's especially for women where the AZ clotting risk is highest.

Dont forget they changed the advice and are now trying to offer under 40's a non-AZ vaccine, as opposed to the previous limit they set which was lower. ( Under 40s to be offered alternative to AZ vaccine )

In practice that may mean that, since the few centres I've got a little bit of knowledge of tended to offer one vaccine at a time, quite a lot of the centres have been more likely to be dishing out Pfizer or Moderna since the system was opened up to under 40 years olds earlier in May. But that will also depend on the logistics in place in different sorts of vaccination centres, and the history of what vaccines a particular centre has been dishing out in the past may offer clues, so some local knowledge might help.

Thats really just guesswork on my part though and even if it turned out to be broadly true I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions and possibly a fair bit of regional difference too.

I'm 46 but 'lucked into' getting the Pfizer because I was a bit late to book due to a combination of factors including a lack of local slots when I tried. In the end I got up really early on the first day that the website started accepting 38 & 39 year olds and some local slots had appeared on the system, so I grabbed a slot and when I went for it today it turned out they were dishing out Pfizer. Whether that centre has been doing so all along or whether my accidental timing helped I cannot say. And the public arent given very much detail about supplies of the different makes of vaccines, it always sounded like there isnt that much Moderna around but I dont have real data to inform that picture. I can only confirm that in some locations like mine, they arent having to save all the Pfizer for 2nd jabs.

edit - a bloody typical typo from me where I ended up typing not instead of now in the first sentence.

My GP's, which is a hub for 3 other surgeries too, was exclusively AZ until a couple of weeks ago, but is now doing both AZ second doses & Pfizer first doses.

I know somebody late 40s who got Moderna in the North West this week, she's the only one I know. She hasn't had any side effects.

So having become Moderna jabbed myself with the booster (I was told at my place it was Moderna one day, Pfizer the next, though no idea why they are doing it like this)...

...24 hours in and can confirm injection site pain is waaaaaaay more than on my two Pfizers, to the point of pissing me off and taking a load of codeine in an attempt to get rid of it.

Don't feel too bad, no sickness. But I shivered me timbers (or something) around 9pm last night and was glad for a duvet. And generally feel wiped out today, like maybe being hit by a very small bus. But not too bad overall.
