Things you really hate about the Premier League

Regarding Sky and the Premiership, I'd rather watch Match Of The Day anyway. It's a lot more time efficient and no shitty lad advertising to annoy me.

Are there? You think people choose their leisure activities based what they think is cool? I think barely anyone over the age of about 18 ever does that.

Aren't you falling into the very trap you warn against - that of judging who is or isn't a 'proper fan'?

To be honest - and talking here as someone who has a Hamlet season ticket - I think it's undeniable that you could say there's something of a 'trend' there. There's no doubt for a lot of the people there (not everyone but I'm not about to get upset by the suggestion like editor is) it's a pretty casual thing and I suspect a lot of them will drift off eventually.

I think some people have a really weird idea of how that happens though. As you say people don't go 'because it's cool'. There's no-one there who's there because of some hipster trend beacon in the sky. People hear there's something going on and they go down because they've heard it's enjoyable, which it is. They have a good time and keep on going and crowds keep going up. Maybe eventually they get a bit bored and start to drift off, and things die down a bit, which I expect to happen at some point. We all do that with all sorts of things I think, it's perfectly normal behaviour.

I was a casual supporter of Charlton for a few years (until they got successful and I could no longer get in), but drifted away as I moved on and life changed. As you say, it's normal.

Was I a 'true fan' of Charlton? No, I'd never claim that. Was I going because it was 'cool'? Certainly not.

'Here there are no borders, no boundaries'.

Well apart from the fucking huge boundary put around those who can't afford the rip off prices.
No boundaries? What are the platinum, gold and silver ticket prices then. A kids season ticket at Arsenal costs the same as an adult. A hot dog or burger meal that costs £8 is a boundary to the majority of normal supporters.

I'll have seen Leicester play live a pitiful three times by the end of the season - once free, twice £30. But I've only missed one game from the comfort of my armchair thanks to TV and, more pertinently, piracy, despite being a Sky Sports subscriber. I'm happy to pay for it - it's really not that much.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy non-league when I go.

'My' Premier League :D This year, maybe...
You can't beat being at the game no matter how good the tv coverage is.It's not comparable.

Worst thing about the Premier League?

How it's pricing has led to the creation of a new breed of smug, patronising non-league afficionados who've abandoned their teams and rocked up en masse at the nearest bandwagon club because it's cool.

Well done, you've discovered lower league football, doesn't suddenly mean all football above it is now beyond the pale ffs.

Most interesting season in years for me, and I don't even support a Premiership team.

"Why I love Dulwich Hamlet" would have been a more honest thread title would it not?

In most cases the club have forced/priced out regular long term match going fans,Its harsh to say people abandon there club when they can no longer afford it because the club wan't top dollar from any old fool with money to burn. It can't be any easy decision turning your back on the club you have probably supported since childhood.
I agree the premier as a competition this season has been intriguing for the normal fan but how often has this been the case?

Yes. Ticket prices suck.
A lot of poor quality football on show as well. If you listen to the post game radio phone ins it tells you all you need to know about the quality of football being produced in the prem. The majority of it is shit, overhyped shit.

Why don't you try and do something about it rather than giving money to Murdoch? Liverpool fans have proved that it is possible to challenge the rip offs: Liverpool owners scrap £77 ticket and apologise to fans

Leicester tickets have been maintained at a reasonable level despite promotion. Arguably they were too high in the first place, but that's by the by. It's different to FSG's 'turning fans into customers' attempts to extricate more cash. Subtly different, but different nonetheless.

Your moral compass is ok with promoting Amazon products, my moral compass is ok with subscribing to the only premium TV subscription service available in my area. It sucks that my money goes into the same empire that steers the public into voting for Tory scum and I'm not happy with that but c'est la vie.

Fair post, the clubs and sky have you by the bollocks which ever way you look at it.

Wow. Point-scoring scope creep, right there.

Oh, and fuck Murdoch. He's king of the scum

People do all sorts of shit because it's cool. Zeitgeist.

I'm not debating what constitutes a proper fan. There are many shades of grey.
This is a really piss weak argument. Do you really think 100 Hamlet fans trekked to VCD Athletic on Saturday because they thought it was "cool"? That's bollocks and you know it.

Just listen to yourself. The football is shit and fans only go to be cool. Because Mr Sofa Premiership says so.

No, you listen. You're selectively choosing bits of my posts and shaping them to what you want to rally against.

Where did I say Hamlet fans only go because it's cool?

When have I ever tried to defend Murdoch? I've acknowledged that he's scum.

And stop with the sofa Premiership nonsense. It's pathetic. I've made it quite clear why I can't go and see Leicester more regularly, and quite clear that I go and watch non-league football too.

It's ok for people to think differently to you.

Not really. You're in some weird mouth-frothing strop making fairly personal, aggressive little jibes at me because I'm a Sky customer and I'm merely pointing out that it comes across as a little hypocritical given that your own ethical shopping habit is fairly flexible.

To an extent yes, but it is still possible to see your team despite rising costs, just not as often. If you can afford to go to 3 non league games you can afford one Pl one. Personally I can only go football on Sunday's and I'll tend to pick the games against the cheaper teams in the cheaper areas (where the atmosphere is better anyway)

The cheapest season ticket at West Ham next season is £289. That's less than £15 a game.

Under16s are £99.

And yeah, those will be the cheap seats but the other bands have also been reduced.

This year is expensive though, they're certainly getting as much as they can from the last season.
