The worldwide craze for 'love locks' - New York puts its foot down

A girl I go to college with was banging on about getting married and a lock and Paris the other day, makes much more sense now I've seen this. She's just gone and got an open, heart-shaped padlock tattooed onto her ring finger as well, to be tattooed closed when she gets married. I think it's a bit sad that getting married is so important to her - she's not even seeing anyone at the moment and yet she has all these plans.

Not even dating and doing that sort of thing? That's batshit tbh.

I worked with a woman whose bf proposed and she basically pulled a lever arch file out from under the bed with every detail already planned. Crackers

She is dating, but not one specific person yet. Just seems like if she does one day marry someone, it'll be about ticking the box of a goal she's had for years and not celebrating something that's special and didn't exist until she met the person she marries.

i don't think the weight of locks, even in the worst case scenario, will cause any bother to a road bridge.

they seem to be rated for a 7.5 or 18 ton vehicle. And I guess they could expect that in both directions in convoy.

thats hundreds of tons.

But that one extra padlock could be the straw that broke the camels back. Just think - all those soppy bastards could be responsible for the deaths of loads of people. :(

I first saw these on Hua shan, China 2007 or 2008. I assumed it was a Chinese thing.

Not sure I like the idea of padlocking love, though.

Ironic if no one marries her because of the tattoo on her hands...nevermind she might be able to get it changed into a big skull or something.

you have to repair shoes as well. Key cutting and shoe repair are inseperable

And trophies. You must have trophies.

Next time a royal dies, or is just passing through, I'm going to open a pop up shop that engraves trophies with heart felt messages and then padlocks them to shoes for people to lovingly chuck at the royal procession.

Patent pending!

Love lock overload!
Paris bridge rail collapses under weight of too much love
The path of true love for tourists in Paris has often involved a stroll across the Pont des Arts and the attachment of a "love lock" to its railings. The key is then thrown into the river Seine.

But the celebrated bridge had to be evacuated at the weekend after part of the railing collapsed under the weight of love locks attached to it.

Police ordered visitors to leave and closed the footbridge after a 2.4-metre section of railing broke loose.

The world would be so much better if people were colder and more angry. All this feelings stuff just ruins everything (beats self).
