The Wheel of Time self harm thread.

I started it again and found myself enjoying it so have carried on. Will take about 10 weeks. There are plenty of other books to read but am happy re-reading this. At least it is 3 months of not having to worry what to read next. :D

I must admit when I read it (last year, prior to the Amazon adaptation) there was something quite comforting about the pipeline of books ahead - like having a six season drama to binge watch. And I'm not saying there's nothing good about it - I absolutely love the world that Robert Jordan created and some of the characters and the first few books are great. But the repetitive plots, the sexism, the terrible writing, the endless descriptions of the tunics worn by whatever culture... I couldn't put myself through it again.

Third reread!

tugs imaginary braid in utter despair

It is a much easier read the second time. No need to try and remember too much about characters that are bit players.
Found a bit more humour written between the lines too. An easy read and good company one a winters evening like an old friend.

Yes, i first started reading this series in 1990 or 91 , definitely a comfort read.

So have completed my re-read of the complete Wheel of Time plus prequel and feel content to have read straight through with no gaps because of missing book, will move on to some lighter reading now, give the arthritis a chance to calm down those books are heavy.

My wife bough me all the books last year, I'm currently on book ten, not sure how I have managed to stick with it. But it is quite good at times, better than Lord of the Rings but not as good as the Hobbit.

Just finished it & helped get me through some dark nights..

Dandred I find the humour stronger in the last third so enjoy it.

Edit to add I have put it on my re-read list for 2044 :D

Finished all of them a few weeks ago, glad to be reading something different.

They did get much better towards the end, which is normally the opposite of series of books.

Wasn't it a different writer that finished them off as the first one died? (Not read any of them myself and i bailed on the amazon show after s1)
