The Wheel of Time self harm thread.

why the fuck am i still reading this?

i'm now onto book nine.

I'm starting this thread because i didn't want to futher derail the long earth thread

my feelings so far
i'm still going.

part of my soul died when i came up with the pithy summation of the works as "What happens when the author of 'men are from mars women are from venus' tries to write tolkien"
it was a bit too accurate. it made me realise i'm going to have to put up with this shit for the rest of the fucking books. i'm kinda hoping Brandon Sanderson downplays some of this shit. i'm actually only reading this because i like his books.

i'm on a crown of swords now. the half way point. i can't fucking stop now. i morn for the days of book one which y'know actually felt like a variant of fellowship of the ring. there are good bits. it's not terrible. but my god it's fucking irritating at times. most of the problems that occur are because all the "good guys" are fucking twats most of the time. no one fucking believes what anyone else says. they live in a world where the entire north is rotting and they seems to disbelieve in the coming of the dark one.

in song of ice and fire i get why most countries are fighting among themselves and dubious about reports from beyond the wall. they have a giant fucking wall and even the people on the wall think the evil force is mythical.

in wheel of time the entire north is constantly under attack from evil creatures when people who live a few days ride away think these things are mythical.

i'm not sure if it's more "realistic" or not but it make you want to slap just about everyone.

i read the long earth in about 6 hours

it was a delightful slice of pickled ginger after a 30 foot nigirizushi that had roofing insulation foam instead of rice

i'm also listening to uni lectures on sci-fi and applying some of the theories to it

i still think everyone is a dick to each other.

Heh, I've seen it around, read a couple of reviews on SFReviews.net. I'm not massively into Tolkenesk fantasy anyway, so sounds like I'm right to stay away.

What would happen if you just stopped. It's not as if there's nothing else to read.

I got to book 5 and was going to read book 6 but I'd forgotten most of what I'd read by the time it came out so I didn't bother. 7 books later and I'm not regretting the decision.

Have you read the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson? Miles better.

Stephen Baxter is shite but The Long Earth is in a pile of books I have to read...

He lives just up the road from me"!

They say that in order to muster the temerity to believe that you have something sufficiently interesting, innovative or important to say that others might actually want to read it, you require a strong ego-sense.

But 'nigirizushi'? Nothing says that an outgoing personality structure requires a predilection to the pretentious.

yeah she's boning him. in fact i think that was the end of the last book.

she is now much less annoying

right at the beginning it was interesting to have a character who was diffrent from standard fantasy fare
by book 4 the girls were really grating

on to book 10

at this point i have to ask how the fuck can they make the last battle seem epic after this many books?

ok the clensing of the male side of the one power wasn't bad but at the same time i was expecting more.

wait till you get to the last book where lews therin/rand merge and the dragon reborn becomes as a healer rather than a bringer of random deaths. It is a massive relief. They bring back a certain aes sedai and matt's story, by far the most interesting, provides great relief. Am actually looking forward to the final installment

Loving balefire yet? Here is a supepower. Now, nobody must use it. Except now and then.
