Got an email from an (American) friend who's worried about getting vaccinated due to the possibility of heart-related side effects - any advice as to how best to reassure him? From a quick google I found this: Should rare cases of heart inflammation put your COVID-19 vaccine plans on hold? but thought I'd throw it out in case anyone here can advise more.
I mean, he does live in Texas, so I wouldn't be entirely surprised to learn that the official advice on a state level was that the virus was cooked up by Bill Gates in a Chinese lab or some shit like that. But yeah, will do my best - I suppose the fact that I'm now double-Pfizered without any ill effects is only anecdata, but it might help.He should just follow the offical advice, and that's that the risk is very, very small and it's safer to get the vaccine. I'm not sure what much more there is to say tbh.
We used to listen that when I was a student - and the name popped into my head some weeks ago for some reason and I noted it on the phone to look up some stuff on youtube, but forgot until now.not a bad idea, shows what you;re interested in.

Ah, result - he's just got back to me saying "Ok, that's credible data. 1 in 60+thousand. Thnks." and that he still isn't convinced of the Johnson & Johnson one but is looking at getting the Pfizer. He should just follow the offical advice, and that's that the risk is very, very small and it's safer to get the vaccine. Not sure how someone manages to interpret that as a reason not to get vaccinated. there have been more issues with J&J than with the other vaccines. early stats i saw said it wasn't as efficacious either (66% protection rate vs. 80%+ for the others). that's the one i got but it wouldn't be unreasonable to wait for another if he'd feel more comfortable.
J&J is no longer used in Canada.

The 66% versus 80% thing doesn’t really make sense. The J&J trial was carried out over a longer period of time including in places where they were more transmissible variants whereas the Pfizer and Moderna ones were carried out in summer where those variants weren’t as prevalent. What we need to look at is not how well they are at stopping you getting it but how they work at preventing people being hospitalised and dying.there have been more issues with J&J than with the other vaccines. early stats i saw said it wasn't as efficacious either (66% protection rate vs. 80%+ for the others). that's the one i got but it wouldn't be unreasonable to wait for another if he'd feel more comfortable.

I wish I was but nope, they are for real.you're fucking joking
Eta: are these the same people who decided people were paranoid for avoiding people with the virus?
All this exposes a failing in science education in schools I think.Totally living in fear this lot:

Yes, quite possibly exacerbated in certain US states too due to religious influenceAll this exposes a failing in science education in schools I think.
They were on clapham common and sheperds bush before. There is now an anti-vax camp on Hackney Downs it has been there a few days , I've heard that the parks department is trying to move them on . I walked past it today , they just seemed to be smoking skunk , lots of 'information' on posters , apparently the virus is msm & they are the cure
Wake up sheeple !
definitely still in there but in the backgroundI wonder how many of these people were obsessed with aeroplane contrails a few years ago. Haven't heard much about all that for a while, but I've been making a concerted effort to avoid certain people. I wonder if this new set of fears has pretty much replaced that one.
That is where it originates from, and then it spreads. So, the majority of the misinformation seems to have been down to a dodgy dozen?
Among the dozen are physicians that have embraced pseudoscience, a bodybuilder, a wellness blogger, a religious zealot, and, most notably Robert F Kennedy Jr, the nephew of John F Kennedy who has also linked vaccines to autism and 5G broadband cellular networks to the coronavirus pandemic.
Majority of Covid misinformation came from 12 people, report finds

His uncle still had more fucking brains than him after DallasThat is where it originates from, and then it spreads.
Apparently RFK was involved in setting up the website "vaxxtracker.com" which was collecting "adverse reactions" to vaccines (to be subsequently monetised by selling the data including all the VAERS stuff they had hoovered) which has now been taken offline after what seems a flurry of reports of very strange adverse reactions.
Makes sense. Certainly explains the swivel-eyed lunacy and general paranoia.I think the testing was proposed because of a supplement found to contain amphetamines or something
Obviously Bill Gates got to him :'(one fewer
Far-right extremist who threatened top Belgian doctor appears to have killed himself, prosecutor says | CNN

That is an absolutely fair point old bean. Not just in general school. I dunno if you saw but over 4K women reported a change in their periods after vaccination (cycle disrupted, painful, longer etc). This was dismissed as bollocks by a (male) Dr on This Morning. Another Dr, female and a specialist in women’s health responded by explaining how the immune system influences the menstrual cycle and why this wasn’t anything to worry about long term and we should still get jabbed. But 4K women have just had their lived experience dismissed on national telly. How many will then look to dodgy sources instead? If a huge daytime national show, using a Dr who is supposedly highly qualified can’t be bothered to do their homework then I can’t say I’m surprised the average public is confused and easily misled.
