The Ochlympics: Glasgow 2014

Terrific, gutsy performance last night from Laura Weightman to win the Silver Medal in the 1500m.

Gonna try and catch up with the men's gymnastics later, currently watching the ladies. I kind of fell in love with Kristian Thomas at the London Olympics, he always looks a bit tearful bless him

I'm managing to get my first live gymnastics fix. Think I may have some recorded, but don't know yet as too many recordings to get through

The commentators with their home nations cheer leading are too irritating to watch. Why are there 3 of them? And why is Matt Baker 1 of the 3?
Matt Baker used to be a gymnast, apparently, which is why he is commentating on the gymnastics.

I don't mind the home nations cheer leading, it's not too intrusive and the games are happening in a home nation so I think a bit of bias can be forgiven. Plus I don't feel it's to the detriment of athletes from elsewhere. Plus there is also Michael Johnson to give a wider view :)

Haven't watched as much as I'd planned to (it was much fucking easier when I took my hols during the Olympics), but the gymnastics have definately been my highlight so far (alongside Jack Laugher owning everyone y'day), so much male and female potential for 2016.

So if you could only hug one of these chaps which one would you choose?

Another victory for the ginger hordes in the parallel bars.

Out of curiosity, when did this transformation in gymnastic ability/interest happen? I'm sure when I was little there was nary a Britisher capable of a backward roll without falling off sideways.

For the men at the 2012 Olympics when they won the bronze medal in the Team Event :)

Just managed to squeeze it all in on iplayer (having been at work all day) before the diving started. Nice to have sport to watch after a lifetime of emphatically avoiding the watching of sport.

I spent the day watching all the men's team gym that I didn't see live. Fucking annoying having the women's xfactor auditions going on at the same time. Nice to hear Whitlock being touted as the man to knock Uchimura off his perch/podium.

Curius as to why the diving has been booted off BBC1. Are those unscheduled (and unmissable) athletics they are now showing instead?

Yeah I think it is because athletics, despite Tom Daley, is more popular generally. Tbf I would also choose to watch athletics before anything else. Makes me feel more like a coach potato :D

Though I think the camera where they track the divers from the top into the pool is brilliant!

I note that Bristol's gold medal haul is on a par with Wales

4 x 400m is easily a better watch than 4 x 100m.

What a last leg; like everyone else I thought he kicked too early, but how he held on! Thought he dipped too early too :D

I was shouting "too early" at the TV

Also I had the sudden realisation that I have turned into my Dad who regularly shouts at sport on the TV in a Geoffrey Boycott "dear...oh dear" fashion. I am the female Boycs :facepalm::D

It was interesting what Johnson was saying about being ahead to have the inside track. You wouldn't think it would make that much difference when only two are side by side, but Johnson is probably a fairly good authority on this :D

Daley's running away with this. Hopefully the net won't be soaked in the bile of armchair experts if he 'only' wins a silver as per yesterday

So pleased about Jo Pavey's bronze. 40 years old, mother of two including a ten month old baby and still winning medals
