The Ochlympics: Glasgow 2014

I'm really impressed by the Rugby 7s. I've never seen it before properly.

It doesn't have the big theatres of war that normal Rugby has, with its infantry in the middle and its cavalry on the flanks. It's like Guerrilla Rugby. :)
Goes to show that if you remove scrums, line outs, rucks and all the other ridiculous macho bollox, it's almost watchable. Obv League worked this out a century ago :p

13 year old Erraid Davies from the Shetlands gets a bronze in the pool
Some excellent stories around - like the swimmer from Mauritius who trains in Sri Lanka cos there aren't any pools at home.
Seems as though the crowds are loving it and are roaring English, Welsh, Irish and Manx athletes on almost as much as the Scots. Which is nice :)

She's so tiny! Imagine being one of the adult swimmers she beat :D

Thanks,Espresso.....<grr> - so close!
The Brownlee boys are in the medals again - this time as part of a quartet winning the gold in the new triathlon event alongside Vicky Holland and Jodie Stimpson.
Brownlee Junior tweeted today something along the lines of "If you can't beat him, join him!" with ref to his older brother. Which I thought was rather good

England's netballers bounced back from that narrow defeat to Oz with a good win against South Africa. Tough competition this with NZ and Jamaica involved as well

Hampden seems a miles better athletics stadium than it is a football one.

General consensus from The Celtic-Reykjavik game that had to be played at Murrayfield because CP was being used for the opening ceremony is that Murrayfield is a miles better football stadium than Hampden too.

Hampden is only the fourth best stadium in the country

Excellent museum with friendly guides though. Much reccomended, way better than Parkhead

Yep - the Hampden Park museum and tour is one of the best things I did last year. That stadiums got some great history.

Not least that I have graced the sacred astroturf of Lesser Hampden myself

I've been on the pitch at CP, Ibrox, Hampden and Murrayfield. All for gigs of wildly varying quality, mind you, rather than any sporting prowess.
I've been on the pitch at Ashton Gate, but only cos I was chased there...

I've enjoyed that. I think of it as rugby for the attention challenged :D

Unfortunately, due to reasons, I've not been able to watch nearly as much of these Games as I'd have liked. I completely missed the gymnastics and didn't even manage to record it :(

Most of what I'm watching is fast forward on the recorder to get through the hours and hours of recordings as I know I'm never going to have time to watch them all

Jazz Carlin winning the gold in the 800m was the highlight for me. The first woman to win gold in the pool for Wales in 40 years!

I love watching this length of race in the pool, because it's full of tension! She was losing time on every turn only to make it up on the length, and she'd had such a disappointment at the Olympics I was really rooting for her. In the last 75 metres or so when she powered away and dropped the rest of the swimmers I was shouting and jumping about quite a lot at that point. :D

Gonna try and catch up with the men's gymnastics later, currently watching the ladies. I kind of fell in love with Kristian Thomas at the London Olympics, he always looks a bit tearful bless him
