The Monochrome Set are back!

"The missing link between The Kinks and The Smiths" was in a review I read last night. Hard to get much higher praise than that really.

Have to say that Marc Riley was a really nice chap and I loved his enthusiasm for the tunes he was playing. He was happily playing air guitar/drums/kybds to every record he played and he - along with the staff there - went out of his way to find a cymbal when the one I was promised had gone walkabout from the studio. Had a nice chat with him after and he asked us to pose for a picture with him. It was a really friendly, professional and welcoming environment.

I like to think we're not quite in the Creme Brulee league, but the gigs went better than I expected. It's been a stressful (and bloody brilliant) week - live BBC Radio session on Monday and two sold out shows on the weekend - but I'm glad I managed to play those tricky albums without too much of a fuck up. I even managed to get through the 5/4 song without getting lost.

It was nice to get my camp glittery kit out again even though having such a small bass drum (18") leads to the dreaded stage creep and I had problems with the BD pedal attaching to the riser that's needed to ensure the beater lines up properly...

*There's some related discussion here if anyone is interested in my dilemma. I'm thinking about buying a larger BD and covering it in a similar finish.

Really pleased this is all going so well for you ed. Give us a shout if you're playing anywhere in the far South West .

We've started touring again - last weekend we were in Germany and Paris where we always get a younger crowd who seem genuinely interested in the band - and here's what we've got coming up.

Message me and I'll see if there's any chance of guest slots. I fucking love touring, me!

I hear from mates that Epic cancelled the Norwich gig, but still pocketed the handling fee?
We're really fucked off with those cunts. Cancelled the gig without speaking to us first and now we're fighting to get some compensation (we'd booked trains and hotels so we're considerably out of pocket). We'll never play there again.

Ouch, sorry to hear about that, editor. They're a relatively new name on the Norwich gig circuit and I know that organisers at rival venues - Open/ Arts Centre - don't have much time for them, I'd assumed it was competitive angst, but clearly not.

Guess we won't be seeing the Set in Norwich then :(

We're trying to get another gig in Norwich as there seems plenty of interest in the band. But it won't be at Epic Studios.
