The Monochrome Set are back!

Not a lot of people know that Tracey Thorn covered the Monochrome Set...

Apparently: "Funnily enough in January 1983, Smash Hits magazine in their singles review; gave Tracey the Single of the Fortnight but not for "Plain Sailing" but for its B-side "Goodbye Joe"! "

That's a lovely song. I thought it might be on A Distant Shore which was a big favourite of mine many moons ago, but it's not, so probably never heard it before.

The Tracey Thorn is new to me. Great little listen. I remember the Iggy/BPA cover as it got rotation on MTV2 back when I was a teenager. I think right now Suddenly, Last Autumn (as of today, but always changing) is a favourite TMS track of mine. Just adoring the surf rock riff while packing, it's been non stop Monochrome Set for the last several hours. Looks like I have somewhere to move in to, as long as i pass checks. So, hopefuly not paying for storage for long. Would love a TMS covers album, one day.

Great show at the Lexington tonight. Had a brilliant time, Eligible Bachelors is an all time classic, and really cool to have Lester up on stage. Awesome to hear Fun for all the Family and The Midas Touch was fantastic live. See you in Guildford in December.

Aw thanks. I remember buying the album and seeing the band play live back in the day so it was a real treat to play it live with Bid, Lester and Andy. Thank you so much for coming!

Well, after four albums, nearly 120 shows and radio sessions and tours of Europe, Japan and the US my time with the Monochrome Set has come to close.
It was great to end on a real high note in front of a sold out show playing one of my favourite albums on Saturday.

I am - as they say - now available for new offers!

Oh no, that proper sucks. You got to play drums with one of your favourite bands and travel the world, not many people get to do that! You guys had been sounding really good live at the last few shows I had attended.

So my last album with the band has just been released and it's just picked up a nice review:

That works to the group's advantage here as, despite what one might be tempted to surmise given the pristine nature of their studio recordings, they prove to be a crack live outfit that's full of ramshackle energy. So much so that Bid has to put a little bit of extra oomph into his vocals, which gives the songs a nice sense of urgency. The collection is a lovely gift for fans who will never get a chance to see the band play live to hear for themselves how good they are, and it's fun to also hear the group update older songs like "Jet Set Junta." Credit to Tapete for collecting and releasing these sessions; they are yet more proof that the Monochrome Set truly are one of the great bands of the post-punk underground and beyond.

I have just finished listening through, the drumming on the later tracks was really good. Band sounded really tight on the last two sessions. Great job, Mike.
