If Andy's playing is terse & stiletto shaped, Mike's drumming could not be more different & maybe the contrast is another reason the band's sound is so unique: busy & exuberant, he makes the same riffing, almost melodic contributions that Keith Moon did. He even caught my eye with something I'd never (as far as I can remember) seen before: during Bid's affecting solo encore of "Goodbye Joe", he made it from the stage & to the bar & back again with shots for himself and Athen without eyebrows being batted.
BY STEAM TRAINI also learnt that Pete Waterman is apparently a big fan and attended our Lewes gig!
Imagining some sort of crazy bizzaro world where The Monochrome Set made it huge off Jacob's Ladder leading to a Stock, Aitken and Waterman produced single in the late 80's.... shudder.I also learnt that Pete Waterman is apparently a big fan and attended our Lewes gig!
The Monochrome Set have been exquisite for decades. Their history is enough – morphing out of the early Adam And the Ants to create their own musical vision which was the template for the Smiths and most of eighties guitar indie like Postcard Records and the sound of young Scotland and a myriad of others.
To this day they play these wonderful melody soaked songs full of political intrigue, quirky drama and a dark humour and remain the perfect pop band that refuses to go mainstream. Tonight they switch the mood perfectly and their musicality and wry musical commentary is as blissful as ever.
But I won't be going cos I've just now tested positive, fucksakeGot a ticket for tomorrow night at the Joiners.
Maybe put It on the recycle forum and start an offer thread as it will be seen. Can anyone use my ticket? It's Southampton, tomorrow night.
Thanks for the reminder, hadn't bought my ticket yet, have been looking forward to this since it was announced. Eligible Bachelors is my favourite of the first four albums. Will be exciting to see it all played live, especially I'll Scry Instead and Fun for all the Family, as I haven't heard either live before.I bloody love this album so am really looking forward to this show.
Tickets are over three quarters gone if anyone is thinking of coming!

I hope it lives up to your expectations!Looking forward to the show coming up at the Lexington. Stressed out the last few weeks looking for rental properties and the fact I will be homeless next week if things fail to work out. Lucky I have friends to put me up if needed. All my records and cds are now in storage. So can only listen to eligible bachelors on my phone. Been having a difficult time, so really excited about the gig.
Got my ticket a while back, seriously in my current circumstances, the worst TMS show would be pretty epic. So i'm sure it will live up... several songs I can't wait to hear live.I hope it lives up to your expectations!
It's totally sold out now.
We've plated a fair but up north this year already, but Stourbridge is as far we're going in 2022. I think we have Leeds next March though.
