The Kiss Your Arse Goodbye Thread

You just add the link to the bottom of the article like everyone else does. I'm fed up seeing your unattributed cut and paste jobs.
Sticks Post-It Note reminder to self at edge of laptop.

Actually, thinking about it, it isn't always possible with short items in, for instance, the G's live thread about the war. Posting the link seems to give you the whole page of widely differing pieces of information. I assume in these cases I will have to just say 'This is from the Guardian.'

Just post a link to the page you're copying the text and make sure you add some actual opinions of your own because there's only so many content free cut and paste jobs people can stand.

I already told you how not to remove the annoying formatting on your posts that you have ignored, now I suppose I'll have to do the same for posting from the live blog.

Go to the Guardian Live Blog.

Right click time of the live stream entry (1). The click Copy link address (2) then post it into your post.

I've seen plenty of posters put up cut-and-pastes without comment.

In a fast-developing situation it's sometimes better to bring the news to the people ahead of some often ill-considered blah blah.

In my opinion.

They tend to at least post a link to the source and put the quoted content in quote tags, so it's clear it's not actually their words, e.g -

Although in this example they are my words. :)
More likely it's those who can't tell an obvious snippet from a professional news site from a poster's own words who are the thick twats.

Top US general issues warning

The top US general has cautioned that it is still unclear how Russia might react to the latest battlefield setbacks in Ukraine, calling for vigilance among US troops during a visit to a military base in Poland aiding Ukraine’s war effort.

“The war is not going too well for Russia right now. So it’s incumbent upon all of us to maintain high states of readiness, alert,” US army general Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters in Warsaw following a visit to a base hosting US troops.

Reuters was asked not to publish the name of the base or describe its location.

Milley said he was not suggesting US troops in Europe were at any increased threat, but said they had to be ready.

“In the conduct of war, you just don’t know with a high degree of certainty what will happen next.”

Didn't want to start some prepper post but.... has anyone else has a household chat about what to do if nuclear weapon gets used? Not like a full blown exchange (in which case what we decide to do is probably irrelevant), but in case of a 'limited' or one off use in mainland Europe somewhere. Wherever we are, 'Come home right now!' is the answer we came up with.

I think part of the point of letting a battlefield nuke off would be to create mass panic in the west and it would.

Having attempted to mobilize over a million Russians, quite likey the blue on blue attrition a battle field nuke would cause makes using one self defeating. Mind you in a MAD world using any nuke is pretty self defeating

Using a nuke in Ukraine doesn't assure mutual destruction (though it would make it a lot more fucking likely). I'm not sure friendly fire would be an immediate problem if they were hitting several miles behind lines (I'm not sure Putin's worried about cancer rates in veterans ten years from now). One possible plan of his is to use them to obliterate decision making centres then have his 300,000 man army stroll in and take the country from the reeling Ukrainians.

Mobilization number is over a million as I said...suggests different field tactics

Somewhat ambiguous statement, but...

US to act 'decisively' if Russia uses nuclear weapon in Ukraine

Edward Helmore
The US and its allies will act “decisively” if Russia uses a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine, its national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday, reaffirming the Joe Biden White House’s previous response to mounting concerns that Vladimir Putin’s threats are in increased danger of being realised.

“We have communicated directly, privately and at very high levels to the Kremlin that any use of nuclear weapons will be met with catastrophic consequences for Russia, that the US and our allies will respond decisively, and we have been clear and specific about what that will entail,” Sullivan told CBS’s Face The Nation.

Sullivan said that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, had been “waving around the nuclear card at various points through this conflict”, and it was a matter that Biden’s administration has “to take deadly seriously because it is a matter of paramount seriousness – the possible use of nuclear weapons for the first time since the second world war”.

Given what we know from new York combatants from both sides as well as very many civilians will have radically reduced life expectancies from breathing on toxic dusts - I predict a surge of deaths from asbestos-related illnesses. So any use of tactical nuclear weapons would I expect have only a marginal impact on the cancer cases which will develop among survivors of the conflict

do you ever criticise Russia btw

we are all waiting for it
You are forgetting Nikkormat's helpful guide on the Ukraine Meme thread.

Deliberately so. It would be very stupid to spell out exactly what would happen in response to the general nuke threats Putin has most recently made. After all Putin himself hasn't been daft enough to say do X or I'll nuke Kyiv / London / everywhere.
