Happy as Larry. As a Spaniard I'll be cheering for Nadal but if he's not to win, what better man to beat him than Fed? Arguably the two best players the game has ever seen having (in all probability) one last duel at the very top. Can't wait :)

And not to forget the Williams sisters tomorrow. Hats off to Venus!

It's an amazing story. Four finalists all multiple slam winners, all over 30, three over 35, which is supposed to be too old, and who thought even one out of Venus, Federer or Nadal would make the final. Serena sure, but the other three?

As for final predictions, I can't see Serena not winning. I think I'll back Nadal, just cos he has historically had the edge over Federer.

Don't care who wins, though. Venus winning would be pretty extraordinary. Serena winning would set the record, which I think she deserves. And well, I thought Nadal and Federer were both past it, if I'm honest. What do I know?

Who could have possibly guessed? Least of it the two men, and certainly Venus as well. I agree about Serena, though it is far more likely she'll get further chances than her sister.

It's good that Fed and Nadal be playing under little pressure, as nobody expected either player to make it past the third round. I reckon they'll enjoy themselves more than a player at a Grand Slam final usually does. I didn't have them as close friends but clearly they've mellowed out over the years, and Fed coming to the opening of Nadal's Academy facility last year when they were both injured was a nice touch.

Borg and McEnroe seem pretty chummy nowadays. I think you appreciate your arch rival more once they stop being your arch rival. It is the matches against them that define your own greatness after all. They probably thought their rivalry was over!

Bit late to proceedings, but here now.

I missed all but the last set of the 2008 Wimbledon final because I was working (  :( ); unlikely this will match it, but hoping for a good contest. Looks promising so far...

Fed on the march in the 3rd set with a 3-0 lead. Quite a few unforced errors still though - inevitable I guess when he's so attacking all the time.

Fuck me. He's done it. Not too many long rallies so probably won't be regarded as a classic but some of Fed's play, particularly in the 5th set, was astonishing.

I know what you mean, but there was still some astonishing tennis and if this is the coda to their rivalry it'll be a fitting one.

What a couple of players

Fantastic fifth set. Amazing rivalry and incredible players. Was routing for Nadal but happy for Fed. What a story...

Amazing stories this year.

I'm going to give a possibly unpopular view here. I still think both Nadal and Fed are a little past their best, but they were able to make the final because the two best players in the world, Djokovic and Murray, both fell early. I am slightly uncertain where tennis is going to go in the next couple of years - the young challengers are not coming through, and it was the old stagers who were able to take advantage of the top seeds falling, not the younger generation. We still have a situation where there is not a single player on tour under the age of 28 with a grand slam title. Where are the new stars?

Raonic and Dimtriov are a couple of names I've heard mentioned as future slam winners. Even Kyrigos, if he sorts his attitude out.
I'm uninspired by Raonic. Not seen much of Dimitrov, but hear great things. Kyrgios is a long way off really. Another name I hear mentioned is Pouille.

But of those four, only Raonic has made even a final so far. By their early 20s, Federer and Nadal were already multiple GS winners. Murray waited a bit longer, but he was already a multiple GS finalist.

I suspect that the next big name in men's tennis is still probably a virtually unknown youngster atm.

Agree, the kids mentioned above are no where near the standard the big 4 were back then. I see a very uninspiring bunch... Raoinic and other baseliners, 6'6 big servers, big yawn.

The next fed or nadal is some kid no one knows about
