Will be very interesting to see how this plays out now.. I cant see SF in government, i feel FF and FG will make their deals with some smaller parties.

Green Party will be very disappointed.. grass roots support evaporated.

Why do you think that was?

Why do you think that was?
I think their policies are perceived in a negative light in rural/farming circles and the party is generally portrayed in the media as fringe or 'loony' .
The Green Party lost heavily in the council elections earlier in the year, so public perception was already sliding.
Its also not unusual for the weaker party in a coalition government to poll badly in the next election.. similar slump for Labour after their recent stint in power.

Hang on, you don't actually mean that citizenship is surrendered due to extended residence outside the state?
Extended residence outside a country means that very few laws that are made and policies adopted affect you, so why would you need a right to vote.

Anyway in my constituency, the SDs have pulled off a shock win, edging out the SF man many assumed would take the last seat.

The shinners gamble in cavan Monaghan almost paid off. It’s going to be as you were with 2 SF, 2FF and 1 FG. Aontu, unfortunately did well here which is a worry as there support around here are pretty much old catholic bigots.

... and now we just wait... till 'they' tell us who's in government!
I do hope one gets formed before Christmas.. still have two full working weeks.

FG, FF, a few independents from that gene pool. Same as it ever was. And unfortunately that is what the majority seem to want.

The vote for Mary Lou as Taoiseach was a bit embarrassing and they really should look at their strategy if they ever want to get into government.

In fairness, SF are up against the establishment and no matter what their current strategy is... the alliance between FF & FG is a mighty one.

Of course, there's plenty of chatter about how SF are another form of the establishment or (from the right) traitors or (from hardcore Republicans) sellouts.

Sincerely hope that SF don't drift to the right in order to increase the votes - but if they did, it would alienate other voters who are on the left and it would cause schisms within the party. Couldn't ever see people like Eoin O'Broin swinging to the right, for example.

No, but others could quite easily. Especially if it meant power in the south.

The FF, FG alliance is only a relatively new thing too. And I think SF need to target coalition with FF if they want to have a chance.

FF have been quite dismissive and scratch about SF but who knows. Maybe it could be a thing... a very temporary thing.

They're also up against an influential media who make no bones about their views on the party.

In the meantime, the threat from the far right shouldn't be ignored.

FF and SF are far more compatible than FF and FG IMO. Will take a new leader or leaders of each party though.

Agree, far right are building. Not to be dismissed.

Well, they might be able to put their differences behind them in order to do another coalition... but you have some very deep divides between the parties.

Without detailing, the people I know within each party (or even just general supporters) are miles apart.

It would be a strained and strange coalition, afaics.
