The end of cash?

They do to those who are excluded from the smart phone/app technology.

Who had already been excluded by post office/bank branch closures that got under way long before cashless really took off. That is more about the rise of internet banking/services once offered by the PO, is anyone on here advocating doing all your banking and posting (and all the other numerous shit you used to do there) in-branch?

Yeah, my very elderly parents need their branch for everything they do.

Sainsburys, mostly.

Oh I see. You are being a bit daft on this you know.

I mean I didn’t realise you were such a fan of capitalist consumer giants. You shop at Sainsbury’s rather than the local green grocer butchers et al.. keep waving that banner for giant corporations. using your cash that obviously has no derivation from an actual financial institution.
:D ;)

Cash is king merchant here. Only use a card when cash isn't an option. Brought my card to Millwall for the first time last weekend cause my mate is always paying for my bottle of fanta at half time which isn't fair. They've been cashless for a year now. Bought him a pint and paid by card which kind of felt less painless than handing over six bloody quid for a poxy pint. Season ticket card is next to be done away with next year when it goes to entry by tapping your smartphone on a reader. Slightly pissed off with that cause i like to leave my phone at home when at footbalI. Just once a fortnight, no phone for two hours is bliss. The outside world can whistle for a bit.

I love having cash around me, all my Djing work is still cash paid and long may it continue. I trade vinyl records so all my transactions with that is electronic and that covers my direct debits. I'm London based so still have plenty of options to shop about if say the bakers went cashless. Can pay my rent in cash at the post office which sets me up nicely for my once a week fry up and bit of community socialising in the cafe across the road which is always busy with locals/ regulars. My job/ hours means i have a lot of free time during the weekdays and still using cash to pay certain bills etc gets me out of the house and gives me the chance to mix, have human contact/ interaction which is important to me. I have a few mates that are the complete opposite, they can stay in for days, not speak to anyone and use delivery services for shopping, booze, a take away and even there ganja supply.

Some interesting comments in this beeb piece.
Notably the small business owner, who says that her bank takes a cut of each and every card transaction instead of the one fee for paying in cash each week that they would prefer.
Which is one of the reasons why I will always offer cash at a small business.

This coming weekend will include a day at a steam rally, which will be in a field [as they always are] so I'll see how many stalls will take cash.
Some of the rally organisers {especially after covid} have been able to use cash-less terminals for admission - or get you to book online, with a discounted cost.
many banks charge a % of the cash transaction as that 'one fee'

Sorry mate, yes I should have said that I do have a ‘Nationwide’ “bank” account and use my card at Sainsbury’s when I need more cash.
