The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

Lady baby has a teddy, and one of her favourite things to do is take it into the front garden and hump it. If anyone happens to walk past when she's doing it, she gets a guilty look, plus it must seem sort of weird for some people who walk past. Amusing maybe :D not that the streets that busy but still.. I'm sure someone will find it offensive at some point.

I know my daughter will have trained her not to hump her teddy in the living room or front yard for example... not in front of the children etc.. hence the guilty look.

But now she's at mine she doesn't seem to care, she's going off the rails and my daughter will blame me :D

Giving me the side eye, just take your teddy out the back yard lady baby

Today I have lost count of how many dogs I have stroked. Notable pups include English bulldog with underbite eating jellybeans, Gordon setter who was woofing a lot cos he didn't want to go to the pub, he wanted to go to the beach and a tiny sort of border terrier in a bag as he wasn't old enough to go on the floor yet 😻

Help (post spoilered because it contains indelicate material not suitable for modern drawing-room conversations, mealtimes or for anyone who doesn’t have dogs or children, and I think he reads my posts :hmm:).

I used to feed Frankie at 12 noon and 6pm but he started taking a dump in the kitchen of a night. Nothing he can do of course, and it’s not particularly unpleasant because I close all the doors and it’s a slate floor and normally quite easy to clear up and disinfect. It’s not my favourite start to a day, though.

He’s a cocker spaniel so quite small and I understand takes 9 or 10 hours to eliminate food. So I now feed him soon after I get up (7ish) and just before I go to bed (1ish). He takes a dump when we go for a walk (9ish) which I’m assuming gives an average 8 hours elimination time. I also assume he takes a dump in the afternoon/evening when he’s out in the garden say 4ish. I also take him out just before I go to bed for a stroll round.

This has worked for a couple of months but last night he did it again which must mean that he eliminated after just 6 hours. I have a feeling that at other times he saves it up so it can be 12 hours. I prefer giving him two feeds a day rather than one – I did read up on it but I now can’t really remember why. So I think my next strategy is to feed him as soon as I get up and at 12 noon.

Anyone have any suggestions? I give him a carrot after meals because he loves them and I assume it’s good for teeth cleaning. I might start just giving him a carrot once a day so I get to know which elimination is which (I won’t go into more detail).

Are the poos wet emergency ones, or reaaspnably formed turds? I’m assuming the latter
Mungo’s got fleas. I really have been checking him over and not seen one, but have just been cleaning and spraying and hoovering, all the actions I don’t like.
I think sometimes the simplest answer is probably the right one. In your and Frankie’s case, I’d say imagine you’d only just got him from an unknown source. What would you do to establish inside/ outside toilet rules, and start with that.
Pretend he’s a new traumatised rescue dog, and develop a routine

Yes they're healthy enough turds. I've had him 18 months now - it's strange the first year or so I fed him at 10 am and 6 pm and he was fine. Then he'd occasionally do it so I recently moved his meals to 7 am and 12 pmish just before I went to bed. That went well for a couple of months and it started again. Last night I went to bed at 3 am and got up at 7.30 and he'd done it again this morning  So today I fed him at 7 am and 12 am so he's going to have to have stored it up for 12+ hours if it happens tonight.

Not sure what to do if this doesn't work - I'm assuming that he just can't keep it in so it's not worth trying to train him by telling something like "outside" when I'm picking it up. We'll see.

two sheds, for some random reason, Blue started having an early morning dump in the kitchen a few months ago. Healthy turds etc. I knew he could hold it because when he sleeps in the van/tent, he doesn't go til I get up - sometimes 8 or 9am. Where he got the idea he could crap in the kitchen from, I don't know but I started putting him on a loose lead when he was in bed and tethering him for the night. He could get up and move but only within a metre or 2 of his bed. My thinking was he wouldn't shit in/near his bed & if he really needed it, he'd whine so I'd get up.

It did work; no more crap in the kitchen and after a couple of weeks, I stopped tethering him and he hasn't done it since 🤷‍♂️

Ooo interesting thank you I'll try that. I just hope he doesn't in the bedroom because there's a carpet, unless I put down a separate covering.

He probably can keep it in and you’re probably overthinking it

You're right, and this hadn't even occurred to me

Did you know that you're extremely clever? :) I bet you were pleased when you thought of this and it worked.

First time last night and he was fine, thank you 🤞 : . I took him out at 12pmish and he took a healthy dump so 16 hours after he'd eaten, so it seems to vary between 4.5 hours and 16 hours  I fed him just before I went to bed again so he'd have no excuse. Will feed him again and let him out as soon as it gets light.

hope you report back with juicy quotations
It was disappointing. After the sarcastic how about we ban hedgehogs and foxes from parks while we are at it first comment people were fairly sensible (for a Facebook group) with advice to use a monthly prevention treatment from the vet.

My gorgeous boy Harry has been rushed to the vet by Mrs SI and her dad. Looks like he had a stroke. The vet said to prepare for the worst. Mrs SI said to me he's not coming home :(
I'm stunned, we've only just got Luna sorted.

It's Mrs SI's birthday too

Oh no, so sorry to hear this.
Horrible situation to be in :(
