Looking for recommendations for a decent winter rain/wind jacket please.

Had an amazing Gore Windstopper one for about 15-20 years that did exactly what it said and was pretty good for waterproofing too. When that died, shelled out close to £100 for an Endura jacket that I soon came to hate with a passion. It has barely any breathability, so cold days I end up a sweaty mess underneath it and it barely keeps off any rain. How can it fail on both breathability and waterproofing?

Anyway, any suggestions? I ride a fair bit as I don't drive, but not really a serious roadie, so Rapha etc. will be wasted on me and too expensive.

I have two Gore ones which have been really excellent in terms of breathability/waterproofing but the pocket zips died on one of them which is annoying.

Been out all day for two days in the pouring rain with dry feet.

Ex army NBC rubber overboots for the win😂 some what ridiculous looking but having to walk about unsurfaced carparks would kill normal cycling overboots and don't work with boots.

Anyone like to give me a mobile phone handlebar holder 101...?

I've just done my commute and tired of stopping every 2 minutes to check directions.

Can you get any holders that will let you keep the phone in its normal case?

I swear by quad lock.
Expensive, but it works
They normally do a 20% discount every sale season, if you can wait

Or if you have headphones (bone conduction if you are playing in traffic - sound muffling) , maybe get your google maps to read out directions

have you got a garmin mount? I just use a stick on garmin adapter on the back on my phone case. I'll try and post an amazon link..

Depends what kind of case, quadlock is highly recommended for secure mounting to a bike but I preferred a pouch type thing to put my phone in, partly because I use a wallet type phone case , what I have is cheaper, and shittier than the example in the link because it was what was available locally, so I tether the case to the bike for the inevitable unintended phone dismount :D
One time the tether was just long enough to drop the phone between the wheel and the forks, luckily the pouch took the hit and the phone was fine, the thing in the link looks more secure, provides some weather protection too

I find Quadlock squashes my screen protector. That and the phone gets covered in mud means it got used once and I learned to memorize maps...

We got given a second hand Hoy Bonaly for our granddaughter. It's pretty good, she's ridden it with stabilizers and without and still rides it now (aged 7). Might do another year if we're lucky.

Not sure what they cost new, but it was great for free.

We did balance bike until they could balance then Isla bikes through to adult bikes. Isla bikes are pricey but hold their value very well so you can sell them on.

There is a hire scheme now I think which lets you swap as they grow. Can’t remember what it’s called but might be worth looking.

pedal bikes for 3 year olds? any experience / advice? isla (expensive) or others?? thanks.

Kids are growing constantly - have you noticed? So I'd never go anything but second-hand. My kids had Ridgebacks when they were that age - they were decent enough - I think they had MX-14s - there are tons of them on ebay - for example.

It's good.

Urgh, just found out this morning that my friend had recently bought a foldable bike. He tried it out the next day which caused him to crash and now he's got nine pins going through his leg just below the knee to support the wound 🤨 He doesn't want to say much more as it's now a legal issue.

bike error or rider error?

Just keep an eye on Facebook marketplace for a bargain Isla or frog or similar, we picked up an Isla Cnoc 16 for £60 a couple of weeks ago for my youngest (just coming up to 5) that’s a bit cosmetically worn and with damage to the end of one of the brake levers (which doesn’t affect function) - they do pop up cheap on marketplace or gumtree if you’re patient, often third hand or family hand downs being sold by someone who didn’t pay the eye-watering price of a new one. Anywhere like eBay where listings are up for a week or so goes for $$$ as they don’t go under the radar, second hand prices went a bit mental during the pandemic as it was difficult to get new ones.

Before this he’s been getting on fine with a heavy Apollo MTB styled thing (a family freebie) but has trouble reaching the brake levers. Other child had a Puky which was quite good, had a back pedal brake, a bit heavy and quite ‘upright’ but he preferred that to the Apollo.

If you have one of those family cycling centres near you it’s a good place to try them out on different bikes, the one here in Bristol had a selection you could hire and an old running track to do laps on.

I use one of these. Works well. Easy to get phone on and off.

G-85 Bike Alluminum Phone Holder Mount for 3.5-6.2 inch Phones (Black) from Amazon

Not good in the rain. Unless you have phone that is waterproof.

Also if your phone has very large battery ( a Im out and about a lot I have tough waterproof phone with large battery) you need to use hair band or similar to hole phone in securely.

See Decathlon do a version.
