The Cure

I'm going to this too and have a spare ticket if anyone is interested. It's on 16 August and cost £70. Mogwai supporting.

And The Twilight Sad and The Joy Formidable.

It's a brilliant line up in my favourite city. Me and my wife really wanted to go but the tickets, hotel and travel from Brum was too expensive.

Found this little book reading by Lol Tolhurst about the Cure's origins in Crawley. Being a punk sounds positively dangerous back then. You forgot the level of violence around then. He's surprisingly eloquent. He's always portrayed as a buffoon making up the numbers.

I've been slowly catching up with their Glastonbury set. That rendition of Disintegration, always a great song, was jaw-dropping.
Have no idea why I missed this thread  , because I've always been a major Cure fan.
Their set at Glastonbury last year was one I was literally desparate to see, because I'd never seen them live
So on the Sunday, I swapped my shift for an earlier one, this meant that I was less pissed than at some previous post-work gigs on other days

So I got to see The Cure  -- how fantastic was it to see them do the whole Disintegration album live?
Beyond excellent!! :)
It was up there in the top five of Glastonbury gigs ever for me, and my friends who were with me agreed.
The sound was perfect, and Robert must have been gargling honey for a week beforehand -- exquisite voice.
And he chucked in a few greatest hits classics near the end. 'Friday I'm in Love' etc ........ :)
But those weren't even that much of a contrast from the Disintegration songs, because they kept a lot of the bass-heavy, ultra-gothy earlier sound going!
Fabulous!

Been watching a lot of this guy's videos lately. He really highlights bits of songs you might not fully realise are there but which make songs as good as they are. This video examines "Just like heaven" in detail.

Well worth a watch if you have any interest in The Cure, or, y'know, music

That's got to be the longest video I've ever seen about a single song  -- brilliant anyway! ...
I absolutely love the keyboards (especially) on 'Just Like Heaven' :)

That led me to another YouTube video ... annoying absence of any complete songs :hmm:, but a fascinating history whatever!

It was lovely watching their Glasto set last night. They look a complete mess churning out a weird mix of sunny pop and dark-as-fuck goth and yet there they are headlining a killer show looking and sounding like absolutely no one else - and playing to a crowd full of young people. Awesome band.

i used to date this woman who was heavy into The Cure and the whole goth lifestyle. Only dated for a few months. Something was a bit off with her

From last year? I remember watching that on the telly, and it was something else.

It’s weird with The Cure. They are massive and headlining huge festivals, yet simultaneously underrated and often overlooked.

They remain outsiders and committed to doing it on their own terms as the Glastonbury set reminded us.

A magnificent band.

I love them so much. They were the sound of my teens. Our gang of friends were all obsessed and I used to adorn all our jeans and bags with scrawly Head On The Door writing. We saw them at the NEC in Birmingham in 1990. The days when everyone held lighters up in gigs.

My favourite Cure track of all time is 'Push' on the Head On The Door album - I just love the guitar on that track. It's a bit of musical perfection in my opinion. But I love all their stuff. Wore out the records playing them incessantly. Will deffo check out the vids above. Excellent!

Setlist from the first night of the current tour. Ooh there's some good uns in there.: ) Really looking forward to seeing them again now.

A double encore, how theatrical :D Looks good that mate. Enjoy

Last time I saw them was the Kiss me kiss me kiss me tour I think, at the NEC in Brum. They did three encores, I nearly wet my knickers when they came back on a 3rd time.

Ooh that looks like a belter frieda. I always really liked 'If only tonight we could sleep' I've never seen them do that live. Proper psych one that - soundtrack to many a stoned night of my youth.

Got tickets for the Birmingham gig, have got the triple CD 30 year anniversary of Wish on order and am looking forward to the new album (with some real dread that is might be their last).

That's a great set, but how many stunners have had to be left out!

Eta: think I had a bootleg of that one back in the day friedaweed Taped it off the radio. A Forest went on for approximately 6 weeks on it. :D
Yup, they did a few monster tracks on that gig. One of my earliest gigs. I went with Jane Huddleston who I met on a youth club trip when the scruffy youth club from Runcorn kids ended up in a hostel with the Lancaster Catholic sixth form girls lot. I wonder where she is now, last I heard a nurse in Auz.

Lovely kissing lips.

Ahh.... loves lost to the sound of the Cure.

Been listening to a lot of Cure lately...what a back catalogue. They meant EVERYTHING to me 1988-89. Going to see them for the first time was a genuinely magical experience; most people I knew went on two coaches from Grimsby to Birmingham. The morning of the gig was a beautiful sunny summer day and we were so excited.

I've been having a look at some of the other nights and they're playing Charlotte Sometimes, The Figurehead etc some nights. A few new songs too. On stage for 2.5 hours most nights. I'm really looking forward to it too.

I think this might be their swansong too. Mind you, I thought that about the Prayer Tour with Disintegration too, so what do I know?

When I saw them at Hyde Park in 2018 they did a few rarities such as Jumping someone else's train, and 10.15 Saturday night (at 10.20 on a Saturday night).

I'm sure I've already mentioned the time I saw them at Camden Palace and was only a few feet away from them.

My first Glastonbury, in '86, they headlined Saturday night during a massive thunderstorm. Hearing 'A Forest' still sends shivers down me, over 30 years later, when it evokes memories of the seemingly coordinated lightshow in the heavens.
