The Cure

Love this one:

Seconded. Yes, Smith's hair was a thing of beauty but I was talking more about thier quirky musicality, genre-changing videos and by turns hauntingly beautiful/catchily bonded lyricism. Who could you even begin to put in the same bracket as The Cure in the mid-Eighties?

Like X 1,000,000.

Care to provide some context for this claim?

Not really. Just never really thought of them as creating a revolutionary new sound. Their influences (Buzzcocks, Joy Division, Banshees etc) always seemed too close to the surface for that.

None of which detracts from the fact I was fucking obsessed with them between 88-92

Every time I hear the tinkle of wind chimes I expect that huge bassy keyboard roar of Planisong to kick in it any moment.

^^^ :) ^^^

Out of reverence to this post I just whacked on my Beyerdynamics, fired up my CD player and wallowed in Plainsong.

Fucking. Awesome.

Is anyone going to see them on their current tour? I'm going on Thursday to Wembley Arena. I'm told the start time is 7pm. I know they're known for very long sets and that they'll probably have a support but I doubt anything will begin until 8ish. Anyone know the schedule?

I wish. Lucky you. Enjoy! I am going to see The Pixies tonight but actually I just want to go to bed. Rubbish!

They have support and won't be on before 2000

Why not? They're known for long, long sets. Also, I did say, if you read my post, I'm sure they'll be a support on before. It just seems early, even for a support. Basically I want to know if anyone knows what time the venue kicks out the punters.

I wanted to see them. Might do a last minute gig next week. At least they're on at Brixton. Fucking Wembley is a schlep.

Yeah I couldn't do it on a school night. Last time I went to Wembley was to see the badminton in the 2012 Olympics with littlest gaijin who was about 6 weeks old at the time. It was at the start when they had that ticketing fiasco and empty seats visible on the TV so they moved us into the absolute best seats court-side. Imagine my terror! I felt like I was cradling a potential match destroying time-bomb.

I did see the Cure there too back in the 80s though.

I've seen them many times and they've never failed to disappoint me. They are my favourite band though tbf.

Why not? because 1) people enter the venue; 2) the support play; 3) there's a bit of a break; 4) the cure come on. if doors at 1900 it is unlikely the main band on before 2000 at the earliest and likely nearer 2030. as for closing you can ask the venue but ime round 2300

My heart bleeds ;) Try living in the midlands and having to drive 160 mile round trip! Saying that though, isn't the Manchester date the first time they've played in the UK somewhere other than London (and a couple of festivals) for years? Much as I love them I wish they would think of their fans in the rest of the country. I'm still gutted I didn't get a ticket for Manchester when I had the chance.

True, we are spoilt in London and I'm lucky that be able to live so close to so many great cultural happenings.

I'm Jealous of anyone seeing these shows.
I saw them earlier this year in Australia and they were fantastic. With the exception of festivals, it was my first proper Cure gig since '89.
The set was very heavy on Disintegration stuff and there wasn't much from the Pornography/Faith era but you can't please all the people.
I took my 15 year old daughter along and she loved it too .
Highly recommended, would watch again.
