The Closing Ceremony

Do they do the announcements live or are they pre-recorded? Always wondered if there's some poor bugger stuck in a soundbooth late at night announcing shite films.

Kafka on the Shore is odd but great.

No film AFAIK.

I really do think there should be greater integration between the olympics and the paralympics. The flame should not be turned off until after the paralympics have finished and one games should flow into the next without a break. (imho)
Not sure about them running without a break - logistically I think it might be useful to have a break - but had the same thought when the flame was being extinguished. It's not fucking over!

I really liked it a lot :)

I have it on a shelf next to me and I keep meaning to read it again, apparently you're supposed to read it more than once, but as much as I enjoyed it I found it a bit too odd to read again. I usually can work things out but that book left me confused.

Aliens, talking cats, greek tragedy, odd and prime numbers... mad.

I kind of took it like you're supposed to with a lot of Japanese films too, don't ask too many questions, just let it wash over you.
I didn't exactly try and work it out, I just (sorry I am about to say this) experienced it
 @ self

Yeah I know what you mean, there is a lot of stuff in there you obviously have to be Japanese to get, totally alien to our own culture - like the significance of the numbering of chapters: way over my head.

Good story though and I haven't spoilt it by going to the website that he did that explains it all. I don't want to spoil the "WTFness" of it.

His MUM though, in the library with a painting

Oh I'm really going to have the restrain myself from looking now :grrrrr:

I agree. The crowds, interest etc at the Paralympics is a fraction of what it is for the regular Olympics. They should run concurrently, so the same excitement level applies. Also, I think the Paralympics events would be better attended: when people couldn't get tickets for regular events, and they're in town anyway, they might be more willing to attend the much less expensive Paralympic events.

The way they run it now treats the Paralympic athletes like second-class citizens.

If I had any fucking money right now, I might have tried to get some paralympics tickets.
