The Alt-Right

A long read on how the far right has been targeting Idaho and fighting for power, working their way up from school board level to state senators etc.

The fucks are determined, organised and well-funded by creepy libertarian billionaires.

Oh, look.

Oh, look.

This woman was there, filming and tweeting what happening. Things could have got a lot nastier and the cops seemed to be allowing harassment of participants in the Pride in the Park event for a while before stepping in (apparently because of feds in their group chat).

fascists were just harassing a trans woman, the cops arrested her and left the fascists alone.

These guys are literal nazis. They’re currently engaged in a heated conversation with a group and saying fucking awful things that i will not repeat about trans people and Black folks. ImageImage

They’re not even trying to hide their support for genocide and fascism. The guy on the left in the checkered shirt was just being super racist and said that fascism is good and that it’s fine queer and trans people are here because they’ll all be dead soon.

She got detained, it wasn't clear why.

Note how tooled up "Steven" seems to be, restraint ties on display.
This is a family event that takes place annually.

31 of them "Patriot Front" there were that got arrested at the event above. This is them:

Sheriff's Office releases names of 31 Patriot Front members arrested in Saturday bust

Patriot Front members were en route to the Pride in the Park event with riot gear, a smoke grenade and paperwork police say resembled an operations plan.

Patriot Front is a white nationalist group with branches across the country that specializes in vandalism, racist propaganda and “flash demonstrations” meant to intimidate minorities, according to a report from the Anti-Defamation League.

The Patriot Front members were discovered packed inside of the back of a U-Haul moving truck after a concerned citizen tipped police off about what looked like “a little army.”

Thomas R. Rousseau, the group’s founder, was among those arrested.

The men were from Michigan, Texas, Alabama, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, South Dakota, Washington, Oregon, Illinois and Arkansas.

Hateful bastards.

Canada, like the US and every other country, has plenty of their own problems.

Racism, far right organisations, and horrific abuses of indigenous peoples are not unique to the USA.

No, the issues are not unique.

But this incident does not involve first nations, etc - it is about armed thugs with their own agenda.

Can you think of any other country that has racist and far right groups coordinating attacks to this level?
No??

Then, maybe, the level of revolt is a little bit more aggressive than the rest of the countries.

Respect to the counter-protesters - especially this woman, who may have successfully intimidated the "Groomers not welcome in Idaho" shitheads next to her by correctly using "Your" and "You're."

Well, at least there was some consequences for one of them:

Karen Amsden, mom of alleged Patriot Front member and Springville, Utah resident Jared Michael Boyce, said on Monday that her son has struggled to fill “a void” in his life ever since his father left the family years ago and came out as gay. A licensed clinical social worker, Amsden said she’s going public in an attempt to sabotage his standing in the group, because her other attempts at convincing him to walk away from the far right have so far failed.

“I would love to do whatever I can to out him [as a Patriot Front member] so that he can’t be a part of it,” she said. “And that they don’t want him to be a part of their group because his mom has loose lips and a big mouth and he’s never going to get away with anything.”

Amsden said that after her son was released from jail, he told her he’d continue to stand with the group, so she delivered an ultimatum. “I told him, ‘Well, then you can’t live here. You can choose between Patriot Front and your family.’ And he’s like, ‘Well, I can’t quit Patriot Front.’ I’m like, ‘Well, then you've just chosen. So pack your stuff and get out of my house.’”

Twenty-seven and still living in his mom's basement. I'll forego the jokes. One thing that I think has happened is that we have difficulty helping young men to transition from boy to adult with some sense of direction in their lives. It leaves them angry and vulnerable to people who would like to recruit them for far-right groups.

Far-right groups have sometimes tried to take over smaller jurisdictions. They tried this in some small towns in South Dakota and Nebraska and got pushed out before they got a real toe hold. They were buying substandard properties with the idea of moving their people in until they could vote their own members into the local government. In Nebraska, local residents got together to buy up and burn abandoned properties rather than allow Nazis to move into their community. They could still buy vacant land and build, but that's exponentially more expensive.

Good for her, that must've been horrible for her to see him go down that route. It seems pretty cult-ish. :(
I don't tend mock people about living with their parents at that age though. It's getting pretty common in the UK, eg, cos of the housing crisis. Although I can imagine that for a lot of those far-right types like him, it's just another part of their entitled attitude.

When wages don't keep up with the cost of living, it's almost inevitable. In the US, getting your own place is considered the second stage of adulthood, right behind getting a driver's license. You really get mocked if you don't hit that benchmark before you're 21, but we haven't provided the framework of wages and education that people use to achieve that.

they're just expressing their free speech rights again this weekend

Cherilyn DeVries of the Montana Human Rights Network said that, through their research, they’ve also found posts and comments about the National Socialist Movement coming to Missoula. DeVries said she hopes nobody in Missoula succumbs to the impulse to try to counter-protest the neo-Nazi group.
“These person-to-person conflicts are what white nationalists are trying to incite,” she said. “That gets them news coverage and gives them more attention.”
DeVries said she understands the media's role in making the community aware about an event planned by white nationalists, but she cautions that those groups try to raise their own profile by getting into conflicts in communities.

have found no follow up on this.

I'm not going to watch a one hour video without some context chief
Just watched it, it basically goes through a lot of the fascist symbolism involved with the project and explains its links to 4chan and how that whole culture works.

It was an interesting video but also felt a bit weak, I suppose because the production of it feels similar to a lot of conspiraloon videos. The YouTuber who made the video seems legit though - I've seen him featured on other legit channels talking about similar topics like Internet hustle culture scams. I would assume the video is more intended at his audience/following who he's built up enough trust with rather than an audience who don't know him. Overall worth a watch imo and glad it's been produced

Thanks might give it a go if I have time

MTG's head is so far up her own arse it pops out of her mouth like the second jaw in Alien.

One wonders what she'll make of the potato shortage:

<edited to add>
I have noticed an odd side effect of rolling shortages. They're getting oddly-timed products on the shelves. A craft store here recently had an entire display of Easter decorations, 50% off. Walmart rolled out some seriously heinous winter clothing (It's reliably been over 100 F every day). Target has so much clothing that there isn't room to display it, mostly frilly-ass prairie dresses, floppy hats, and bulky canvas bags. All at substantial discounts.
