England's chance of winning the World Cup began at 4%, rising to 7% after successful negotiation of the group phase and is now 12%. Due to being the theoretically strongest team in the bottom half of the draw, England are second favourites - behind Brazil - to reach the 2018 World Cup final. According to the Gracenote Sports World Football Ranking, Sweden are not as tough opposition as second round opponents Colombia. England have tended to win more World Cup knockout matches than expected in which they have been clear favourites as on Saturday
Sweden's 3-0 win against Mexico in the group phase is rated as the team's best World Cup result by the Gracenote Sports World Football Ranking system which assesses matches not only by the result but also goal difference. Sweden, along with host nation Russia, remain the outsiders at this World Cup though.
Sweden and England face each other for the 25th occasion and a third time at a World Cup. Of the previous 24 matches Sweden have won seven, England eight and nine have been drawn.
