Sorry, fuming about this and decided he should be outed in his own dirty, sordid little thread.

Christ, it makes for appalling reading; he might as well have got a slap on the wrist.

Was 4 years sufficient.

More importantly the girl was raped three times, suffered years of psychological abuse, has self harmed and overdosed.
What a bastard he is.

No, it's worse than that. He was given four years for rape but allowed to serve it in the Netherlands where the sentence and crime were brought in line with local law. He served a year for "fornication."

Wasn't it also the Netherlands where Steve Albini had legal access to pornography featuring very young teens? Searching Albini Netherlands brings up the article I was thinking of so I guess so but don't want to read it again.
 
But it was a mistake. Should people be punished for life have their livelyhoods ruinned by 1 mistake whilst young?

And anyway, some "mistakes" do have life long consequences. For you, it means you can't go on a world stage chucking a beach ball around. So stop whining. For the young woman, rather more to deal with...

Besides I hate this everything's a mistake now. Not a crime, display of some gross character defect but a whoopsie, sorry about that, will try harder, please don't be mean to me any more.

He has been banned from speaking to the press, so that's ok. Hasn't he also been given separate accomodation?
 
Seems very fucked up.

What is frustrating in all these cases (and also in general in how we deal with crime and harm) is how we usually only hear the perspectives of the perpetrator (usually denial "I did nothing wrong" or defence "I've served my time") and the punisher ("Didn't serve long enough" etc). We rarely hear from the person/people who harm is caused to. In cases like this, the person involved may want nothing to do with it/not want the media scrutiny or furor. But surely whether or not it's okay for someone who has caused harm to be able to move on/compete should be up to the victim to make a decision on? Or at least have a say. Especially as they are likely the people who's lives are most fucked up by this guy's actions. I think that's the nastiest thing about the whole "he made one mistake, why should he be punished for the rest of his life" made by Radcliffe and undoubtedly a lot of other people.
 
I don’t really understand why he only served a year for such a serious crime? Are the Dutch not bothered about kids being raped??

That's pretty fucked up. Yes Paula, raping a 12yo child three times is just the same as popping a couple of pills to win a running race.

He served a year in the uk I believe and then was transferred to the Netherlands where he served a further month.

A mistake is cheating in your exams. Not flying to another country to repeatedly rape a child.

Imagine having to play against a known rapist! I don't know how he's got the gall to compete. He obviously has no shame. I wonder what his team mates think of him.

Well. Football is full of known rapey people and still other players share dressing rooms with them and they're paid millions. Seems like a very dodgy decision by the Dutch to select this fucker though. And also very weird for Paula Radcliffe to 'wish him the best of luck'.
