Squid Game

I'm interested to see what they do next, but didn't like squid game enough to get excited about what that will be.
The lead actor was very good and it looked nice, but the way the series captured several nations imaginations in retrospect seems like a fluke.
The multiple flaws in the games and the way the writers wrote themselves out of the interesting moral dilemmas made for a less interesting and challenging show than it could have been. I really liked the way the series subverted expectations with people leaving the game in the second episode . . but alas did not continue. The more the mystery behind the games was revealed, the more boring and straightforward it got. Now we know. Where will it go? I don't trust the creators / writers to come up with something interesting and inventive.

Don’t disagree with this at all, but as Netflix needs two more seasons to be global marquee attractions, maybe the writing team will have been beefed up somewhat.

Well I disagree with your disagreement.
. . . But as most people don't seem to care about lazy hack writing to get themselves out of tough situations on well reguarded shows like this and 'The Bear', I very much doubt the writing will improve. I expect it to get lazier and and more boring as they attempt to replay 'the hits'. I can already see the 'iconic' robot kid face in the trailer, which was only a game one prop. . . I guess that's coming back.

I read somewhere they are only making this season so they can make some money, as they didn't really first time around. 'They' being the creator. Not Netflix, they made a fuckton out of it.

I suppose I'll watch it at some point. Enjoying 'Blue Eye Samurai' first!

Well I just finished episode 7. Which I think is the last one?

The 'twist' was fairly obvious was from outset. Seemed a bit half arsed compared to the first series. actually i just checked and yes there's only seven episodes, however they've already filmed season 3 which will be released next year. nice little cash cow.

Although I did quite enjoy reading that Netflix's logfire looping animation outrated it over Xmas. In fact it outrated everything :D

I believe the protocol on this site is to put that behind a spoiler although I totally get that it doesn't really require one as it was so obvious..

It definitely jumped the shark anyway

I missed the original unspoilered post but well done leaving the quote there 🤣

I don't know if it was this spoiler that ruined it for me or the fact that it was shit.

Why did we have to watch hours of No-Eul handing out lollipops and sweating in a rabbit head and then character-arcing her way over to antagonising fellow soldiers by ruthlessly despatching potential organ donors, just so that the piss-poor script can ignore her completely when the climactic gun battle happens, even though she is presumably gunning down Gi-hun’s revolutionaries with her usual steely aplomb?

And yeah, she’s masked, but a two-year old could find a way round that which leaves her visibly in some sort of physical or moral jeopardy at the season break. But then a competent infant scriptwriter would have had the boat-happy lot do something interesting in the last few episodes, as well.

I thought it was good. The last episodes were easily as good as anything in the first season. Apparently 2 and 3 were meant to be one season and they should have just made an extra long season instead. I liked it but it definitely felt like we were halfway through rather than an actual conclusion.

It's not finished...we will see more of her soon probably. They should have just made a long season rather than finishing it halfway through

Yeah, I'm not too fussed about not having a huge cliff hanger at the end of a season (I often actively resent that), but the fact they just cut it at the end of Ep7 was very weird. The pacing was all off. And, there wasn't really any reveal because as Silas Loom says, they explained that all in the Season One recap (as well as all the imagery making it very clear). There are so many plot lines left unfinished that you'd hope get tied up next season, but we'll see. I also don't know if it's a Kroean TV thing, but I find a lot of the 'goofy' side characters (especially the goons helping Gi-hun) really grating and out of place.

The guys on the boat? Tbh I think that was the weaker part of the show, i hope something interesting happens with them. I agree with you about the pacing, it was slightly annoying it was cut off like that although the characterisation and themes are again awesome. I want to know what happens next. To an extent the brilliance of the first season was it's shock value, this time I can see why they had to do something different.

I dunno - I think it may just be a Korean TV thing. Apparently their shows usually only have one season.
