South Somerset resources?

Hi Somerset Urbz

I hoping you are a well connected and knowledgable lot. A friend of mine has just moved to Somerset and now lives in South Somerset District Council. Coming from Lambeth they need some in finding help and local resources.

They are in need of help and support. Does anyone know of local groups, organisations and charities that can help people with mental health / depression / PTSD / agoraphobia issues?

Also they are also looking for local LGBT+ groups. Any social or friendship groups or support?

They have a GP already but is still waiting for the referal to the local mental health team. They have been unable to get through to the local Mind group by phone yet.

while i have some past acquaintances who live/d in that part of the world, have a feeling it's the kind of place that LGBT people move away from more often than move to. sorry...

No luck as they were West Somerset years ago and generally weren't sure if what services were there beyond Mencap. Was particularly hard to get their Dad support though motivation/ability was a factor there too.

Taunton is north iirc but they have a few other areas listed and potentially if no luck they might be able to signpost to other services.

Don't know if the needs are quite right by Second step run a project there. Again can probably signpost if not quite right:

Step Together | Support & Housing | Second Step Somerset

Step Together is a support and housing service for adults in Somerset who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and also have a mix of mental health needs, drug and alcohol problems, behavioural issues, debt or have been involved in the criminal justice system.

And Spark is a 24/7 line for Somerset that is probably similar to the Bristol 24/7 line (previously crisis line) and again may be able to signpost.

Not sure if any of that's helpful. It seems there are services around just hard to pin them down as the areas are quite big with small populations I imagine.
