Only thing is i cant remember the place. Never resided there apart from sleeping in a drawer there for a few weeks. i dont even remember that either. All hearsay, so it could be completely wrong.

I got the coach through Taunton today, there really wasn’t much to recommend it from what I could see. Too big to be a charming market town and too small to have any real reason to go there.

The coach also stopped at Bridgwater which I suppose is the Tiverton of Somerset

I lived there for a period and can’t even bring up memories of what the town looks like, can’t remember any bars or pubs.

There was some great independent pubs, with 'alternative type' customers, back in the late 80s and 90s, that regularly had live music, and tended to ignore people smoking spliffs. Fri. & Sat. nights there were usually 4-6 pubs within a short walk that had live music on, we had some crazy parties in some of them.

And, once the shroom season started, loads of people were tripping their heads off in those pubs at the weekends.

Sadly, they are history now.

Taunton's a very nothing place. My mum was thinking of moving there. The only response I could come up with was, really?

Nice cricket ground though.
I walked through it yesterday. Take aways, vape shops, empty units and a bloke pissing in an alley. It didn't show me it's best side.

Sounds like East Reach side of Taunton town centre? I think North Street and towards river/station is a bit better.

We are just down the M5/A38, Wellington. It's a fairly nondescript small town but we love it here, though I miss gigs/films after being in Bristol. I could drive/get coach (24hrs a day, runs from Plymouth to Bristol via Bristol airport) but can rarely be arsed.

Anyway, it's a nice town centre with lots of independent shops and only a few chains, lovely countryside/footpaths seconds from the front door, work is in a small village about three miles away, lots of community nature/transition town/CSA stuff, not far from Quantocks, Exmoor, Blackdowns, Levels, Jurassic Coast etc. Current plan is for a train station in about 18 months or so.

It would be a boring place to visit, doesn't have the wow factor, but is a decent place to live.

Is the cheese shop still there ?

For the first time since 2000 a team from North Devon has won the Ross Shield

Full results from the bell ringing grand final at the weekend

The competition is organised by the Devon Association of Ringers, who appear unconnected to the Guild of Devonshire Ringers. There's a story behind this that I'll probably never know. I'll report back if I get any info from my campanology contact.

I once read that there were around 200 injuries a year reported by campanologists. I'm my opinion this isn't nearly enough.
