Shrove Tuesday 2012 - 21 February

I love 'em with lemon and sugar but seriously doubt we will have any as i cannot be arsed to make them............

There's nothing wrong with drop scones but they are not the traditional pancakes for pancake day.
For a start you cook a few drop scones in one go... so how do you toss them?
When you add lemon and sugar you generally fold or roll them... how do you do that with drop scones? :)

Not my tradition.

I've just noticed that the day and month are a mirror of the year.

21/02 2012.

Shouldnt the world be ending again, consumed by a gigantic lizard pancake or something? Sent by jebus.

I like to observe the increasingly god-free traditions of my homeland. It helps a year to progress in a familiar manner, when so much else is strife and unpredictability. An humble pancake grounds and soothes me.

Hooray, I'm having a pancake party as I have had for the last few years. I give things up for Lent (not so much for religion as for a test of willpower and my health) so it's nice to indulge and eat loads of sweet pancakes before abstaining.

just counted and it's 46 days till Easter Sunday..

Don't recall ever having pancakes on pancake day. Keep MEANING to then forgetting, like I do with every other thing in my life. I want to remember to make them tomorrow. Doubt I will though.

I hope the Scots here are remembering that Feestycock (baked oatmeal balls) is the correct foodstuff for shrove Tuesday. :)

If you've got the ingredients, mix the batter up tonight - it'll taste better for a few extra hours of standing (in a cool place or the fridge) and then you won't forget to have pancakes tomorrow.

Sorted now, I just have to remember to turn up and watch someone else making them.

Korean. (vegan too)

Lemon and sugar ones shall also be had, and maybe some American pancakes with maple syrup and ice cream.
oooh, what's in these Yu_Gi_Oh? they look good!

we'll be havng the usual mushroom/garlic/onion savoury filling, optionally with/without grated cheese... also on offer will be home-made "nutella" with bananas and a selection of jams, lemon and sugar.

I will probably forget when it is Shrove Tuesday but being a heathen I can have pancakes whenever I want them. I like the idea of lime juice rather than lemon juice but I won't bother with the sugar.

The cheese and chilli idea is a good one but probably easier to have cheese and lime pickle which will stay on the pancake more easily than bits of chilli. Sharwoods lime pickle is the best.

Well, this tradition has been highly anglicised over the years.

I'm surprised though because there were a few references on google a few years back. :(

It's green onion pancakes. The green onions are kind of somewhere between a leek and a spring onion, but it's common to put kimchi in too. :)
