Eat Out to Help Out Scheme (Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays)

I'm confused. The squaremeal site says: " As a consumer, in order to claim the government’s discount, you will have to register for vouchers" but the hospitality site says, "Customers do not need a voucher as participating establishments will deduct the discount from their bill, and then be able to reclaim the discounted amount through an online service."

Which is it?

Ah, the govt site says you don't need vouchers.

From the government's site.

You do not need a voucher to use this scheme and you can use it at the same time as other offers and discounts. There is no minimum spend.

You cannot claim discount on alcoholic drinks or service charges.

The discount will be automatically available to you at participating establishments. Establishments will then claim a reimbursement from the government for the discount they’ve given you.

Seems everywhere is registered near me, even a cafe that only has four tables and serves nothing but drinks and cake.

As the ever wise and intelligent government are launching their anti-obesity drive today I assume they won’t be letting high fat meals be part of this scheme.

checks list is participating restaurants

Oh, they are doing, what a surprise.

Could maybe cheat it a bit? Order in, and then very quickly decide "I want to go home" and take your food with you? Wouldn't imagine many places will stop you at the door.
That's not cheating, because it says this on the website :
If a customer purchases a meal with the intention of eating it but then takes it away and leaves the premises, you can still apply the discount.

There's 4 within 2 miles of us, the local pub on the corner (food is pretty good), a small local family run hotel/wedding venue (also decent food), another pub further away which I've never been and a first rate Indian (best of the lot)
TBH if there was no lurgy and the Govt is subsidising us eating out we probably visit them all over the next few weeks even though Mon-Wed is not ideal.
But the lurgy just puts us off completely not so much the fear of catching it but all the malarkey that goes with trying to stop it from spreading, it's easier to stop it spreading by not going out.

Am I the only one very confused by the whole thing?

So the pressing issue of us being able to resist a packet of Percy Pigs every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner cos we can't fathom why they're not a good food option, is the way to solve the dubious eating habits of Brits, instead of being offered £10 off fruit and veg or the offer of a free delivered box of better choice foodstuffs, we get £10 off chips and burgers in a restaurant  And don't forget we can now drink ourselves stupid in pubs but that doesn't count towards obesity cos the "experts" can't see that actually alcohol and the unhealthy advocacy of it is probably more of an issue for waistlines than a packet of sweets.

There are eighty six places within two miles of my postcode.
If I cycle to a different one for breakfast, elevensies, dinner, afternoon tea, tea and supper on each Monday Tuesday and Wednesday in August, would that help, Bojo?
Post of the year contender there

Got over 100 within 2.6 miles. I'm almost tempted but I'd need a service on my bike to get there first and that's not going to happen before September 😬😁

It's a terrible idea to make it the default in built up areas. Why encourage people to drive/take public transport in the middle of a pandemic when there's already 100 results within a mile?

I am in a built-up area, but just over 2 miles from the town centre, so it gave me only 12 fairly shit results, at 5 miles it gives me 75, with at least a couple of dozen decent choices.

In an ideal world it would bring up 'x' number of places nearest to you, which would work better, but it's not set-up like that.

It should be: 'select search radius; 1-5 miles.'

My son tried to book a table this evening to take a young lady out for dinner. Everywhere was fully booked.

Went to my local family run Italian this evening. No token needed. £20 off. Lovely. Lots of care taken to keep staff and customers safe. As busy as it could be. Very glad. They’ve been there since 1976, so would not like to see them perish cos this fucking virus
