Should there be a ban on private ownership of firearms in England and Wales - With Poll.

Should be ban all private ownership of firearms in England and Wales?

  • Not just private owned guns, melt down those of the armed forces and the old bill and make a statue.

  • Ban all firearms in public ownership and have a state agency that shoots things for farmers.

  • Ban all firearms that aren't tools for farmers or pest controllers.

  • Make shotguns as hard to obtain lawfully as rifles and other S1 firearms

  • The Status quo shotguns relatively easy to own

  • Tool everyone in the UK up with a decent AK and 5000 rounds and let god sort it out.

Fair enough, happy to be told how useful a shotgun is at pest control compared to traps and various poisons, I have some experience but Im sure there a people here with more

Well, it's difficult to make any sensible use of a woodpigeon you've poisoned isn't it?

Also, poisons are a horrible way to die and will concentrate up the food chain as the poisoned animals are eaten by scavengers. Resistance to poisons is becoming more common in certain animals whereas resistance to shotgun is pretty unlikely.
Some animals, its unavoidable - rats, mice etc. Grain needs to be safe for consumption and thus trapping and poisons are a requirement for red tractor etc.

Shotguns are also a very effective method of euthanasia of sick animals- a .410 is probably the quickest way to euthenase a poorly sheep, for example. Unlike a captive bolt, it causes death so no need to bleed after. It can also be used to control rabbits and crows.

I would get rid of all guns from the world tomorrow. If you want to hunt or play sports get a bow and arrow. I know that's not particularly realistic it possible and it's not a big priority for me but fuck guns.

There's a reason bowhunting is illegal here.
Far shorter range, far less accurate.
If people are going to shoot animals, it should be done as cleanly and efficiently as possible with minimal suffering.
Guns are far more equipped to achieve that than bows.

That's only if you want hunting accessible to as many people as possible. Much better if it was only the really dedicated nutters.

Righto. Not sure how much difference your proposal will make.
Those who want to hunt and can only do it illegally don't bother with guns or bows anyway.
Yes, I did say that it wasn't particularly realistic or possible in my first post. If you'd like to continue the discussion please do continue to invent my posts.
