Seriously Good Looking Guitars - The Guitar Porn Thread

I just swapped out my PRS McCarty to my big brother for this baby, the fingerboard was a bit light, but now Ive rubbed in a brazil nut its looking lovely. I do want one of those bottle basses though.

Need a new acoustic as my 100 quid shit job is falling apart. (sorry baby... )
Is it worth splashing out on a Martin?

Yeah but make sure you try them out first .. they really can vary from one guitar to the next from everything I've learned about them. A good one is a beauty for sure.
Taylors all sound pretty much the same I think (even at the cheaper end of the scale)
Best value for a seriously good acoustic imo is Larrivée .. hand made in Canada .. not as trendy as Martin or Taylor but fantastic sounding and very well respected too.
It depends on your budget of course but I wouldn't buy the cheapest Martin acoustic model they do just cos it's a Martin iyswim

I have a friend with a really small Martin guitar. I think they're called "concert" guitars. It's the loudest best sounding acoustic guitar I've ever heard.

They have a fantastic earthy sound without a doubt.
Re small big sounding acoustics .. the Taylor GS mini is top drawer (approx £400)
They only came out last year (bit longer maybe) but I've yet to see a second hand one cos everyone who buys one is amazed by the sound.

When I was shopping for a decent(ish) acoustic, I found the lower end Taylors much better than lower end Martins. Once you get a bit over £1k the Martins come in to their own, but that was over my budget.

In god's name why?

I'm sure she (all guitars are females aren't they?) is your new baby and all that but boy that's ugly.

haha

That guitar was clearly made for you :D

What does it sound like (although sound is clearly not important when considering this guitar)

It was really really cheap.
Input socket is broken but I am fixing that up.
I'm going to saw that sight off too, it wacks you in the chest and looks a bit daft.
Slight buzz on the low e string on a couple of frets with the action set as I like it, but I am only going to play messy rock so it doesn't matter.
It's pretty light for a guitar but surprisingly sounds pretty good, nothing really wrong with it at all. Stays in tune well etc etc.
My my pricey gibson flying V is obviously far nicer to play and sounds better, but I don't think it is £1300 better, I'm not sure any guitar is.

Ha ha, but for $25 no way.
I used to use scissors to cut out my picks.
These days I have to use a very specific pick (or rather a specific make and weight).

It is quite cool though.

Yesterday I fixed that guitar guns input socket with three slices of credit card.

I used to be completely anal about picks - had to be a standard Dunlop 0.73 for guitar, and the 1.0 mm for bass playing. Now I probably wouldn't give a shit.

Well I thought I would be the same but picked up picks above and below what I use the other day and I just couldn't do it.
Has to be those nylon dark grey ones (.73 I think) if it's not mylon I snap them, if they are below that thickness they are too floppy, any higher and I immediately break all my strings.

I've had trouble forever with picks - I like .5 gauge, but holding onto them has been a problem - sweaty fingers. Dunlop Tortex were pretty good, but I'm using Juratex ones now, with a sandpaper grip. They say "COOL" on them but they don't go pinging off into the middle distance.

ah you should try using one of those for playing live.

My jacket and wallet are full of them, and yes I do use them for playing live. ANything floppier and I can't really play, trouble is live you get a bit more careless and even with the .73s I break some strings. I think in amsterdam someone handed me a hard pick and I was too fucked to switch it for one from my pocket.

Looks like I only had one active string by the end, that must have sounded pretty good.

Single piece body, then? :D

I always remember my mate's outrage when he found out his LP's body was made up of 7 separate pieces of wood (not including the two pieces making up the flamed maple top).
