Savile being used as a wedge issue to attack BBC independence

Obviously anything bad the BBC does is going to be used against it by those who don't like it. That sort of stands to reason. The Murdoch press are also hard on Berlusconi, who is a media competitor of theirs; that doesn't mean he isn't a crook.

Indeed. The only real check could be a perception that opponents are using sexual abuse for political or financial gain.

It seems to have been common knowledge but could not be exposed because of protection from above - that the people making the accusations would be given a very rough time. That implicates not just people at the top of the BBC but the police, media and presumably politics.

It's a simple reflection of 'star culture', seems to me. The BBC makes a sharp distinction between 'normal' staff and what it calls the 'talent'. The latter are not subject to pay scales or - it would seem - any censure by the BBC at all.

This will have to change, and not before time. Might even affect the ludicrous wages the BBC pays to the 'talent'. TBH I've long thought it was a disgrace that the state broadcaster paid its presenters millions of pounds a year. Suits the top executives, I suppose, who also pay themselves a small fortune.

The coalition must be rubbing their hands with glee at this - not only do they are they exploiting the opportunity to use the fiscal situation to cut the welfare state & education funding to never before seen levels - something of a wet dream for these cunts, they are now handed on a plate a populist reason to fuck the BBC over once and for all and appease their media backers. Its a bit more subtle than what Thatcher did but the end result could be far far worse.
The BBC is one of the coalitions prime facilitators of the public sale of the cuts. They are doing a rather nice job for them as it goes.

They are definitely doing a terrific job promoting the cuts, constantly reinforcing that the basic idea is correct and and at most the implementation may not be quite right (along with most of the rest of the press). In both domestic and international news. That won't change regardless of how much stick they get about paedos though, it's not an aspect that Murdoch is exactly interested in challenging.

Even before the coalition the BBC were evangelising about how cuts "needed" to happen and that it was like some piece of wisdom handed down by God and there could be no discussion whatsoever.
They would happily sell the NHS off and not mention it as long as they keep their own money and jobs.

the bbc has been an uncritical propagandist for the condem govt. and its agenda since the election. apparently just because of its 'unique method of funding' this monopolist media giant should not be criticised for sheltering and protecting paedophiles.

Is anyone arguing that?

I hear on the Beeb that the editor of Newsnight that called off Savile investigation programme has 'stepped aside'. Note the careful wording, 'aside' not down. They have shuffled him into a back office somewhere. They have also 'corrected' a statement he had made about there being no evidence against Savile.

On a side issue why is the name Savile with a single 'l' pronouced as Saville. I think it would be appropriate to 'correct' that pronunciation to sa vile.

I believe that he's only stepped aside whilst the Pollard inquiry takes place.

What channel would you prefer to tune into then?
If you want news and politics then Channel 4 is the best in my opinion and for me has replaced the cowering BBC television news. It also is quite light on advertising during the Channel 4 evening news. The rest of their programming is mostly rubbish though.

Would you prefer people did not attack the BBC over their handling of the Jimmy Savile scandal?
Sorry, but not playing ball with any more of your dishonest twisty shenanigans.

So, are you going to apologise to MrsM for your filthy outburst, or can I safely assume you really are as nasty, vindictive and as unpleasant as you're appearing of late?

I don't see anyone here calling for it to be abolished. It's not going to be anyway. But BBC executives getting defensive is not the right way to handle this.

It looks to me like you've answered your own question above.

Is it either or? We tolerate the BBC turning at best a blind eye to sexual abuse or we accept adverts? Sorry if this seems a childish analogy? I can't think where I got the habit from.

If you want to dig that corpse up then so be it. Bring it on. Bring the lying Mrs M back onto the thread, I note she never came back to admit her lies, skulking in her burrow is she?

Thanks for confirming my worst fears. You really are a disgrace.
