just because something is gonna be attacked for the wrong reasons doesn't mean it shouldn't be attacked at all and in this case it is unbelievable that the BBC management turned a blind eye while they had information that hundreds of children are being abused, and this is completely unacceptable

But this is the point, isn't it. Your tenner a year wouldn't keep Radio 4 going.

The licence fee works because everyone pays in, and everyone (hopefully... ) gets something out. Not everything out.

The licence fee doesn't allow you to get exactly what you want, all the time - it gets you a say. But it also gets everyone else a say, and unfortunately that also means the people who like stuff you don't (many of whom, incidentally, would no doubt scrap Radio 4 altogether to fund another series of Two Pints of Lager).

Though if Alan Green's job were put on the table I might reconsider my principles somewhat

The focus needs to be on the great and the good at the top who allowed it to happen and trying to prevent it from happening again, rather than on the BBC as independent institution.

this is pretty spectacular own goal territory by the looks of it and massive infighting, although i can't think of many (any?) other media organisations that would allow it's flagship current affairs weekly to take a massive public shit on another of its flagship news programs as it appears Panorama is going to do tonight to Newsnight.

The coalition must be rubbing their hands with glee at this - not only do they are they exploiting the opportunity to use the fiscal situation to cut the welfare state & education funding to never before seen levels - something of a wet dream for these cunts, they are now handed on a plate a populist reason to fuck the BBC over once and for all and appease their media backers. Its a bit more subtle than what Thatcher did but the end result could be far far worse.
