Ridiculous amounts of clothes

I have (approx.) 54 pairs of knickers (no, I am not photographing them) which basically means laundry can be avoided for months. I own 3 pairs of trousers (but 2 of them are my leather working pairs). 5 pairs of shoes - 4 lace-up Oxfords and work boots. 1 coat (which I bought in 1986)...but generally only wear for weddings and funerals. I have many pairs of gloves and hats.

OMG - I only have 19 pairs of shoes in total and that includes my canoeing shoes and wellies. I still think I have too much. I've got a ridiculous amount of socks though - I need to cull those. Think I've about 50 pairs. Really 20 should be enough -10 thick pairs for winter, 10 thin pairs for summer. That's usually how count/limit clothing, no more than 10 - because I usually get to the launderette within every 10 days.
Yeah I’ve got loads of socks. I think I’ve got about 30 pairs of boot socks because I’ll get cold/wet feet at festivals and buy more.

I've got too many of every single thing but I'm too sentimental/cautious to get rid of any of it.

Forgive me twentythreedom for I have sinned. I stopped counting my Dr Martens after about 120 pairs.
moose yesterday

My confession is probably a bit too much footwear and coats.

I think there's 13 pairs of boots/trainers and shoes, but some of those trainers and boots are only for summer/dry use as the soles have pretty much gone, but I feel compelled to wear them into the ground before I chuck them. Included in those 13 are also some steel toecapped wellies that I liberated from work that only get used in the worst weather for outside work and some Lidl fake crocs for in and out of the garden.

eta.... 14. I forgot my old British Coal boots that are still in the shed and never get worn as they ain't that comfy and have no fashion value, but it's the only thing I have left from that job, so can't quite bring myself to getting rid of them

Most of the coats were given to me as I look like a tramp and people take pity on me and they mosty get worn dependant on season

Likewise for me - some of the boots and trainers are rarely if ever worn these days, but they're still functional so I can't chuck them. Not bothered about chucking clothes - I take stuff that no longer fits or is beyond salvage to get recycled at M & S. I don't know if it is possible to get shoes recycled - I guess not given the wide mix of materials they're made of. :(

Coats blocking my hall and stairs: I gave up counting after 40 (none of which belong to me). Since they are between the kitchen and the rest of the house, trips to and fro are endless...and every single one involves heaps of coats cascading to the floor. I have taken to ignoring them, even stomping on them in work boots in an act of petulance against those who require more than 3 coats (one for summer, one for winter and a raincoat).

I congratulated myself on cutting down to just one pair of gloves and one hat and then I misplaced my hat!

I have twice the number of clothes I have storage for. They live on my chair, on the floor, and on the drying rack. I am trying hard not to buy anymore. I should do a major sort out and donate half to charity. Maybe on my next week off.

moomoo tell me more about giving clothes to refugees? Thanks.

Also I have heard that donating to charity shops isn't all that great in reducing waste and a lot of the clothes end up getting dumped in developing countries like in Haiti and Africa and wreck the local market for fabric and clothes. Something like this.

I think that's the charity collection bags that come through your door. Clothes donated that way do end up, as you say, wrecking local markets in developing countries.

Socks very quickly become left and right, IMO. Or the wear isn't even, so they don't feel right if paired up with the wrong sock. I generally get those socks with coloured heels or whatever.

Fucking hell! Are there even 120 different types or do you have loads the same at different stages of wear?

And from charity shops. Had a job a fair while ago collecting van fulls of bags from different charity shops which got sorted in a big place to be sent to Africa in shipping containers. Some shops would have 50+ bags a week!
