Red pepper soup

I made mulligatawny soup just the other day.

My favourite is broccoli and stilton if I'm having bread with it.
Otherwise I like a chunky vegetable or a lentil soup.

Made this yesterday. Tiger prawn, cheese, ginger and sesame dumplings in a dashi (with soy sauce and sherry) broth topped with toasted sesame seeds. Dashi is amazing.

Goodness me that looks very classy! Well done!
I got kombu and bonito flakes off amazon then followed this video. (no chillis in mine anymore as I couldn't find sweet ones in the shop, don't be shy with the ginger)

You end up slurping the amazing broth, dipping sourdough in it works too.

I make a mean leek / chicken / spud soup, and my versions of mushroom or tomato isn't too bad as I fry with onions n black pepper for extra flavour.

Almost anything vegetable can be smooshed up as a soup.

I wish I'd ordered some soup with my online delivery that came this morning. Yesterday I didn't think I wanted soup, but today I do. Could make some but I feel a bit poorly and knackered. Hence wanting soup.

The soups on this thread all look delicious.

Bookmarking this whole thread. I've got lots of favourites!
  • another vote for mulligatawny - I used to have a recipe that used dried apricots but I can't find it, maybe it was in the Crank's cookbook; so good!
  • leek and potato, with lots of black pepper and vegan yoghurt/cream
  • sour cucumber soup from my childhood
  • my partner's vegan pho

I used to get a vegetable box for a while, and some months of the year it was a game of “what other combinations of Jerusalem artichokes, celeriac and kale can I think of?”

That’s basically why I gave up.
Oh god tell me about it! I gave up when I started to wake up in a cold sweat wondering how the hell I was going to use all that celery and carrots.
When you feel menaced by vegetables....it's time to stop....

We got a small one for a while, the quality was decent and the veg nice but i felt somewhat insulted by the prospect of fobbing chard or salad off as a meal. Certainly didn’t deserve to count as one of the five choices in the box

I was kindly given a meat box for my birthday with some excellent meats. Weirdly I got two ham hocks. I'd only used it to make ham and pea soup before so thought I'd try just cooking one. It was a bit average, so the next one will definitely become soup. I've just had to wait for space in the freezer for all the portions it will make. I'm going to try cooking it in the smoker, hopefully will make a difference to the soup.

Ham hock and white beans as a slow cooked stew, with some leek and mustard, and then served with sprout tops or any green flavourful cabbage is a heavenly thing.
