Yeah, it's availability from health food shops was the main reason it's got such yoghurt weaver associations - lots of things have made the journey from specialist foodshops to being widely available though: I was reading a recipe from a 1980s recipe book the other day and it said you should go to the health food shop to buy olive oil as it's likely not available from your local supermarket.
It's odd that you can still buy the small bottles of olive oil from chemists. Given how ubiquitous olive oil is surely they don't sell much of it.

I bet they sell plenty - Fillipo Berio's finest doesn't come with the little dropper the chemist's olive oil comes with, and I'd imagine lots of people feel a bit hesitant about pouring their gusto frutato into their ears..

Easy to decant some oil into a smaller receptacle though - or if you must pour it direct from the bottle just do so with your head over the chip pan to avoid wasting any.
