Recommend me a mattress

This is the mattress I have now, no springs as it turns out, just memory foam.

Are springs better?. How long should a mattress last?. It’s starting to sag noticeably now after about 10 years.

Thinking of getting an Emma original today. Last day of the sale. Has anybody experienced any downsides?
I have heard they might be a bit hot and perhaps too soft.

At the beach house we have IKEA memory foam toppers on spring pocket mattresses. We always sleep well and comfortably.

I got a mattress recently that has over a thousand pocket (not coil) springs. It’s fabulous.
I would not trust any mattress that can be stuffed into a box.

I have an Emma, and it is extremely comfortable, but sometimes I do find it a bit hot, and I wish I'd gone for a hybrid now rather than 100% foam.

This is why I am leaning to an Otty hybrid. Same prices as the Emma standard, but cooler and a little firmer.

I’ve got a bed frame and no mattress, been sleeping on a sofa bed in the lounge since I moved house last week. I’ve bought a Simba on 25% discount, partly as I don’t want to be sleeping on the sofabed for another month when I can try one out in the flesh

There’s a 200 day return policy so even if I don’t like it I will be able to get my money back, and in that time I will be able to get to a shop.

We have one of these and absolutely love it:
The foam is all inside a layer of wool, so it breathes nicely and stays cool. It ain't cheap though, since Harrison Spinks manufacture them.

Oh, and you get an adorable little sheep stuffie.

My memory foam mattress is now over a year old.
I love that it moulds to my shape.

It gets hot..which is great in winter. So warm that I have had to keep the radiator in the bedroom turned off.

Now that the weather is warming up a lot, the memory foam mattress is even hotter. I am waking up in a sweat every night.
Even when there's just a sheet over me.

Still love the mattress though.

How is the Simba?

How is the Simba?
I am really not convinced by it.

A bit of context - I’m 6-1 and over 20 stone so I am a big chap and I have various back / hamstring issues which mean I tend to be a side sleeper rather than a back sleeper as I used to be. I’ve never had a “new” mattress before. I don’t think memory foam is for me, I feel like I’m squirming around on it almost like a water bed and struggle to get and stay comfortable and still before I get off to sleep.

I’m off to Dreams tomorrow (have put this off so many times) to look at some pocket spring alternatives as I’m fairly sure my previous mattresses were pocket spring.

The positive things about Simba - very often sales are on so a discount is available, easy delivery / purchase process, 100/200 night trial with allegedly a no quibble refund. The negatives have been as I describe.

Ta for this . I’m 6’2” but about 16 stone , side sleeper and have been toying with getting a new mattress so I go very useful 👍

I still wish I'd bought a Herdy, but a lot of people at the time said they were too warm. We've got a Hypnos Ortho Gold Deluxe, which is pretty comfortable but still a bit hot for me. Maybe I should sleep in the fridge.

Cold and damp here for three months in winter and a warm mattress would be great then but come spring , summer and autumn no way Jose .

I’ve today started the return process for Simba. Filled out an online form, sent some pics of it off and it’s been accepted. 5-7 days for it to be collected, then another 14 days for refund back to my card - probably working days.

Anyway a very firm pocket spring mattress from Dreams will here arrive this coming Monday so I may have to find space for the unused mattress for a few days.

How about now? Still like it?

We're thinking of getting one, it sounds cooler and better for side-sleepers than Emma.
I'm a side sleeper and it's fine. It's still just as good and in shape as it was on the first day. It's not hot at all. I did also get a very light micro fibre duvet which is lovey, but too hot for summer. Recently got a micro/hollow fibre mix at four togs, and it's just fine. Not quite as soft as the more expensive 12 tog from tkmaxx but, much cheaper at only £12.
I'd also recommend the Egyptian cotton sheets tkmaxx are doing for £20 (from over a ton).

But yeah, I recommend the otty, see if you can wait for the sales.

Promised myself a quality mattress rather than the cheap/inherited ones I've had all my life when I could afford it, so after looking about going for one of the Herdy Sleep ones mentioned earlier. They do 100 night guarantee, so can't go wrong I think.

This is my most middle class middle aged post on the internet ever btw.

Thanks, it feels a bit weird spending so much on a mattress without poking it i. a shop first, but if it’s good for most people it will probably be fine.

Going to order one but have to wait for the bed frame first, which is on back order due to the shipping container situation. Hopefully a sale will come along at just the right time.

I just made sure I read all the reviews intensely, asked about it on here and Facebook etc. Lots of people loved other beds, but were more into softness or didn't mind the heat. He otty looked right up my street and appeared to be excellent value for what it is.

I read a bit of this thread and got myself an Emma mattress Emma Original Mattress | Award Winning Memory Foam Mattress king size. (Bloody hell, it's £439 now, it was £500+ when I bought it 2 weeks ago  Edit: I paid £635 , BUY NOW IF YOU WANT ONE!). 'Which?' recommended, most awarded mattress, generally good reviews etc.

Anyway, it's very comfy, so all good there.

However, I'm not impressed with Emma.

I have an Ikea bedframe. Ikea do slightly non-standard sizes (10cm narrower than standard king size, same length). So after measuring the bedframe, and checking the size of normal Ikea mattresses, and finding out Emma ones are 10cm wider, I asked on Emma's chatbot whether their mattress would fit my frame. They assured me is would 'just' fit. Did it bollocks. It's 10cm too big. So I'm cross at Ikea for their stupid non-standard frames (don't like Ikea, never shop there, I didn't buy this bedframe), and Emma for basically making up nonsense. I was a bit silly to believe them I suppose, when they're trying to sell me something

Also, the mattress just turned up Saturday, and luckily I was in. No email, no tracking info as promised.

Anyway, I think I'm keeping it. I just about managed to squidge it into the frame with a little overhang, and it is comfy.

10 cm overhang:

And if anyone wants a code for some money off an Emma mattress, I have one, can't remember how much, will have to look.
