Receptionist sent home from work for not wearing high heels

2-4 in heel? That's a "fuck me" shoe, not professional wear. Unless she's employed as a stripper, the employer is well out of line. They don't really take female employees seriously there, do they?

Well, I've never trained in H&S or been an advisor but everywhere I worked after I returned to work from having children, insisted no plasters in first aid kits.
Mind you, even if there had been plasters in there, I can't imagine why you think women would be stealing handfulls of them. Don't you like women?
Of course he likes women. Think of all the time he dedicates to thinking about what they should be allowed to do.

don't need to take them as far as the vets

Have you risk assessed that as suitable for the task? :)

Email from our government said:
The Government has responded to the petition you signed – “Make it illegal for a company to require women to wear high heels at work”.

Government responded:

Company dress codes must be reasonable and must make equivalent requirements for men and women. This is the law and employers must abide by it.

This Government is taking action to remove the barriers to equality for women at work, which is why we are tackling the gender pay gap, increasing the number of women on boards, increasing support for childcare costs and ensuring employers are aware of their obligations to pregnant women.

Employers are entitled to set dress codes for their workforce but the law is clear that these dress codes must be reasonable. That includes any differences between the nature of rules for male and female employees, otherwise the company may be breaking the law. Employers should not be discriminating against women in what they require them to wear.

The Government takes this issue very seriously and will continue to work hard to ensure women are not discriminated in the workplace by outdated attitudes and practices.

I won't bother with this online government petition shit again.

Am I being simplistic? Surely there isn't another campaign going on saying "We demand women wear high heels in the office". In which case then surely it's easy enough to simply say "Fair enough. This shit stops tomorrow".

I've never been to Upminster. I was reliably (or not, as it turns out) informed by a denizen of Barking that it was two stops. Which just goes to show how much credence one should place on the words of people from Barking... :)
Back in the first days of Ken Livingston's GLC when kids got free travel in the tube (remember) I lived one stop outside the GLC on the NW of Londin which meant I had to buy a 10p day ticket which said "not valid at Upminster". Being a rebel I went once.

Cool story huh?

Im gonna wear high heels in solidarity with all the depressed and downtrodden workers of PWC.

What, with the temp reception staff, working through an agency, who're probably earning not much more than minimum wage? Solidarity with those depressed and downtrodden workers? Fair enough.
