Rape, sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry

Anyway, I wasted 3 hours of my life watching him in Viewpoint this week, which I won't be adding to. If ITV had anything about them they'd pull it.

John Barrowman trending on socials at the moment, largely because of this “funny” story told by Noel Clarke. (Contains “hidden in plain sight” repulsiveness).

Edited to add spoiler.

Barrowman seems to have a history of exposing himself at work. A quick search suggests he did it whilst on Radio 1 and also when appearing on loose women. The reports I saw were from the mail and the sun, so I won't link.

Rhetorical question: wonder what happens to electricians, catering staff and other 'non-talent' if they were to start exposing themselves on a TV set?

By the by, Viewpoint is still on the TV schedules and ITV Hub. ITV must know they are going to pull it, why not just crack on and get it done?

The other thing is, when it comes to prolific offenders, their reputation precedes them. There will be questions for commissioning editors and the rest.

He is well known for it and has talked about it himself. Cos he’s hilarious. Clark was probably right in that clip that he gets away with it by being non-threatening about it (as far as is possible for a star who you can’t tell to fuck off waving his cock about). But even if you accept that (and you shouldn’t), it opens the door to others doing the same thing in a rather less hilarious way.

Yeah, agree to all of that. If there is a point on some continuum where you might find 'non-threatening exposure by powerful people', Barrowman will probably be there. I don't think there as and I'm not keen on setting up gradations of offensive through to abusive behaviour, but Barroman's behaviour sounds 'different' to Clarke's. But however 'different' it might be (or might not) they seem to be swimming in the same sea of toxicity.

I saw the first report (about Noel Clarke) and thought "I really hope that's not right". Dunno what I was expecting, some confusion or something.
Been involved with film festival stuff these last few years and from speaking occasionally to people in the industry there are plenty of predators at all sorts of levels (I'd previously figured it was more at the "gateway to the big leagues" level of power where the worst would occur).

Depressing, and hope the conversation moves quickly onto how to stop this stuff continuing to happen. Otherwise it's just reputation management - a load of people disassociating themselves from this one guy.

He is well known for it. He's very far from being the only one. It's something that I found highly peculiar when I first started working in a theatre. I've seen more famous arses, cocks and fannies than non-famous ones and that's a stone cold fact.

I can only assume it's a power thing. Maybe partly also an insecurity thing. These are often people who have gone to massive lengths to get attention from others. It's an easy way of making everything about you when you otherwise have nothing to say.

Yes. A man putting his penis on a woman’s shoulder while she’s getting her makeup done, even if it is “non threatening” (insofar as he’s gay and isn’t going to rape her), is still using his genitals as a status and power trip. It’s unacceptable and abusive.

It's not difficult is it really. Don't expose yourself at work FFS.

Well this is all a bit confused.

'He said: "I vehemently deny any sexual misconduct or criminal wrongdoing.
"Recent reports however have made it clear to me that some of my actions have affected people in ways I did not intend or realise."
He added: "To those individuals, I am deeply sorry. I will be seeking professional help to educate myself and change for the better."

So he didn't do it, but is getting professional help for that thing he didn't do but he might've done without him realising. Or something. FFS.

Well, he’s not owning up to anything criminal (yet), but is admitting some level of dickishness. A cynic might say this helps muddy the waters.
