Rape, sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry

This article was grim reading. Creepy men using power and money to exploit women.

Imagine her whole book is filled with creepy shit. That fucking video she did for Blurred Lines, don’t think I have ever wanted to smash the granny out of anyone quite so much as that cunt Thicke, sadly the world is full of scum like him.

Bill Murray suspended from a film after a complaint about "inappropriate behavior."

I was really hoping he wouldn't end up on the list of Hollywood sleazebags but it sounds like the fact that Murray - or his public persona, at least - is so likeable has been causing people to look the other way for far too long.

Although often semi-obscured by his mercurial public presence and critically heralded performances, Murray has had a long reputation for difficult, sometimes abusive behavior in the industry—as well as accusations of domestic abuse and violence from his ex-wife, Jennifer Butler, that came to light after she filed for divorce from him in 2008.

Yes. A man putting his penis on a woman’s shoulder while she’s getting her makeup done, even if it is “non threatening” (insofar as he’s gay and isn’t going to rape her), is still using his genitals as a status and power trip. It’s unacceptable and abusive.
It is a criminal offence. The Met Police murderer is finally being prosecuted at the moment.

(After I wrote that, I realised the question 'Which one' would pop up. Couzens.

New currency mate. The notes and coins we have right now are terribly silly and are from the Jurassic era. Have been played offf the chessboards by crypto. The old notes and coins should be in museums.

Well this post aged well.

Some more information as it appears Murray has settled

That's grim reading - I hope Murray retires gracefully instead of going around complaining that he's been canceled when nobody wants to hire him anymore.

The latest revelations, in a report from Puck News, suggest Murray allegedly straddled a younger female production assistant when the two were in “close proximity” to a bed on the set. He then kissed her on the mouth (though both were wearing masks, per Covid protocols). Murray said he was being “jestful”, while the “much younger” female co-worker said she interpreted his actions as “entirely sexual” and was “horrified.” The woman, who has not been identified, filed an official complaint, as did a second staffer who witnessed the incident.

A lawsuit's just been filed against Steven Tyler from Aerosmith by a woman he (allegedly) abused and assaulted over a three year "relationship" that started in 1973 when she was just 16.

It was already common knowledge apparently, he even fucking wrote about it in his own autobiography
“She was sixteen, she knew how to nasty, and there wasn’t a hair on it,” Tyler wrote in his memoir before saying he became the girl’s guardian to avoid getting arrested if he took her out of state before detailing their sexual endeavors a few pages later.

Actually felt my skin crawling there. :(

Shades of that scumbag kiedis in that. He was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame even after writing about his 'affair' with/rape of a 14 year old.

Edit... and if I've got the dates right, the same happened with tyler i.e. book published before rock and roll hall of fame.

Another 16 well-deserved years in prison for HarveyWeinstein - even if he wins his appeal in New York, the California sentence means he'll probably die in prison anyway.

Just before his sentencing, Weinstein begged Judge Lisa Lench for “mercy”, telling her that he “didn’t deserve” to spend life behind bars, and adding that the allegations against him had been a “set up”.

...He continued: “This is a made-up story. With all due respect, Jane Doe One is an actress… Jane Doe One can turn on the tears.”

How dos this work then? Does he have to finish his 23 years in NY and then start his 16 in CA to give him a grand total of 39? Or does he start his 16 now so even if he wins his appeal in CA he just stays in pokey anyway?

The sentence is consecutive so if Weinstein's New York conviction is overturned or if he gets parole - he'll be eligible in NY in 2039 - he will have to start serving the 16-year sentence in California next.

Not sure where he's going to be for the next few years, with appeals planned or underway in both New York and California, he might spent the next few years moving between New York and Los Angeles, probably feeling tormented by the echo of his former lifestyle.

I saw the first report (about Noel Clarke) and thought "I really hope that's not right". Dunno what I was expecting, some confusion or something.
Been involved with film festival stuff these last few years and from speaking occasionally to people in the industry there are plenty of predators at all sorts of levels (I'd previously figured it was more at the "gateway to the big leagues" level of power where the worst would occur).

Depressing, and hope the conversation moves quickly onto how to stop this stuff continuing to happen. Otherwise it's just reputation management - a load of people disassociating themselves from this one guy.

Noel Clarke is very sorry and he’ll seek professional help, but he didn’t do anything.

Well this is all a bit confused.

'He said: "I vehemently deny any sexual misconduct or criminal wrongdoing.
"Recent reports however have made it clear to me that some of my actions have affected people in ways I did not intend or realise."
He added: "To those individuals, I am deeply sorry. I will be seeking professional help to educate myself and change for the better."

So he didn't do it, but is getting professional help for that thing he didn't do but he might've done without him realising. Or something. FFS.

Criminal or not (I'm not a lawyer), it sure sounds like 'sexual misconduct' at the very least.

ETA And when did sexual assault or sexual abuse become (the less serious sounding) 'sexual misconduct' anyway?:mad:

There’s a difference between habitual sexual misconduct, and the severity of sexual assault that the DPP will bother prosecuting. Although some of his [alleged - if I must] offences are illegal, unless something even more serious turns up, Clarke’s criminal record will not take a hit. But it looks like the shitcunt will find it very hard to work again. Which will have to be satisfying enough.

If I read it correctly, there are witnesses that he had made secret recordings of “naked auditions”. That’s got to be enough in itself for a criminal record?

His celebrity and the media spotlight mean that the priority won't be to close the file. And he's going to be lucky if, between twenty complainants, there is no evidence that can't be shrugged off.

Of course, he might be lucky, we'll just have to see.

And now:

"The Metropolitan Police said in March 2022 there was not enough evidence against him to warrant a criminal investigation."

Noel Clarke seeks £10m damages over 'false' Guardian articles

This one is not particularly surprising:
Metallica had their own version of this, issuing backstage passes of different colours to distinguish what their 'guests' (their, or the article's term, not mine) were willing to do. Even had staff members responsible for running this 'system'. Again, not surprising.
