Depends what you mean by 'professional' set up, but I would guess that whoever owned the equipment would be setting it up for you, and all you need to do is just point yourself at the mic and play It's often a good idea to double track vocals on the chorus, that's about the only thing I can suggest.

Oh, and take a spare guitar/strings if you can - nothing worse than getting to a studio and having to waste time because you broke a string.

we're off to stay at a place that has a professional recording studio over easter. they mention it in the blurb but i've no idea if you're actually allowed to go play with it or if i'd be brave enough to ask but no harm in having an idea of what it might involve

Not sure it entirely fits here, but I did a remix for a band called Severin. Was at their gig last night and they've put it as the b-side to their new single. First time a proper record label which I don't have any direct connection with has put out a tune of mine, so i'm proper well chuffed
