post your rubbish tunez

thanks again malcolm

it goes (little e string first):

d (9,10,11,12) - g (2,3,4,5)
d - Dadd9/C - g
em (?, 19, 19) - f#m (?, 14, 14) - c (?, 17, 17) - g (?, 12, 12)

Hmmm... if i'm reading that right, you might be playing the chords slightly wrong. D would be (10, 10, 11, 12) and G (3, 3, 4, 5). If that's the case, you could play Dadd9/C as (12, 10, 11, 10) - all the above being played with the thickest two strings muted, right?

As for the Em, F#m bit i'm a bit confused, as i'd never play chords that high up the neck, but playing purely on the top three strings, it would be:

Em (12, 12, 12)
F#m (14, 14, 14)
C (20, 17, 17) - see? 20th fret? Madness. Could just as easily play (12, 13, 12)
G (15, 12, 12)

Hmm....for some reason as I typed that out it reminded me of the arpeggio at the beginning of this, which is one of my favourite little bits to play.

cheers malcolm :) those are definitely the chords, i played them to mr b last night and he named that tune  so i'm guessing that although it may be madness to play that high, it's prolly right :)

gonna see if i can scratch out a rough version today :)

woo :D progress

having read all the way to the end of the tab  he gives the dadd9/c  and it isn't on the 9th :D 2s and 3s :)

and the es etc. aren't played right up the top, that's just the solo :), so i'm going with the ones you've given me malcolm and it's starting to sound like a tune  that g is really hard though :(

Are you playing it as (3, 3, 4, 5)? Don't know if this'll help, but I find using one finger as a barre to do both '3's' is far easier than trying to use a different finger for each one. Bear in mind you can also keep the same shape for the D and just slide the whole thing down the neck.

okay here's where i've got to so far :hmm: dunno if you know the song? the dadd9 goes in the chorus between the d and g, just 4 bars i think.

it's the g in the middle bit i'm having trouble with - as you can see :D
is there a 4th finger i can put on those chords? whatever that string is is well buzzy.

Right, I see now. Listening through your version and the original, the problem is that you're trying to play the bass part, and lead guitar, and rhythm all at once. You've got the lead part (the 9,10,11, 12 -> 2, 3, 4, 5 bit) absolutely right, but to go from that to the Dadd9 is a nightmare as you rightfully determine.

Personally, if I were playing this song, I'd do the verses as you have done, possibly using your thumb over the top edge of the neck to fret the D and G notes on the bottom string. Then, when it comes to the chorus, i'd go back to playing open chords. It'll make it sound bigger, and it'll be lots easier to play. Try just playing the chorus with these chords:

D - 2,3,2,0,X,X
Daddd9 - 0,3, 2, 0, 3, X
G - 3, 0, 0, 0, 2, 3

I can't play them all, ;)

Something I made about 20 yrs ago ...

Was that using a Roland GrooveBox? I had one for a while. Has that quintasential 90's dance sound. I picked it up for a bargain second hand to use mainly as a MIDI controller. Sold at a profit few years later because I included the by then rare 4MB media cards.
