Under the this present government there have been several police raids in areas where non white immigrants live , and a tightening of some immigration legislation. Some of this is dancing to Chega's tune.( Chega being the populist right wing party) by the minority government led by the Social Democratic Party ( business orientated conservatives).
Yesterday there was a sizable protest against the latest raids and police behaviour which received some sympathetic coverage in the two liberal left national newspapers .
