Political Buzzword Watch

Used to describe someone with a conscience who happens to be wealthy.....

"Champagne socialist."

I thought this had died out until the recent ugly vilification of Charlotte Church. It has the unpleasant subtext that, if you support social justice, you are against success. See also: "the politics of envy."

I thought that now referred to people who are rich and want people other than themselves to pay for good works. Or to gain a lot of money from that - directly or indirectly. (Q.v. Blair, Toynbee, et al.)

I remember my boss, back in 1994, saying this word repeatedly, and we were civil servants, working for the VAT office at the time.

'We need to have a conversation about X'

Translation: we have already decided to do X, and are now going to drum up the right kind of focus groups that will allow us to pretend it is supported by mainstream opinion.
Yeah, where did that spring up from?
What's the matter with the old way "We need to talk"
I hate this, "I ill go and have a conversation with..." "you need to have that conversation" aaaarrrrrgghhhh!!! <<<<<<my favourite emoticon, cos its funny
