Peter Dow's political defence -v- "criminal tweets" charge

Members of the jury, how do you find the defendent, guilty or not guilty?

If the essence of this is right, what a pathetic waste of everyone's time, again. In general, Twitter users should only find themselves investigated if they've targeted an individual directly, harassed and caused them alarm. Not if some by stander thinks there comments are a bit off.

I think you're bonkers Pete but good luck with this. Hope it's dropped ASAP.

You have demeaned the Monarch, no punishment is too small!
I hope you rot in the tower, without any internet connection, for years!

If I was pete I'd discuss those tweets after the verdict. And deffo don't wear the uniform to court.

You should be able to slag the queen off on twitter all day long and all night as well, so if this turns out to be some jumped up shit then you are being unfairly done by. imo. So I suppose its down to who thinks what you said constitutes a credible threat.

Whatever the details, Peter, I hope it goes well for you.
Being in court for having a pop at the queen is fucking stupid.

The sooner we build the guillotine in London town, the better.

Sounds like a joint enterprise charge there

All ridiculous charges because it was political rhetoric, as per Alex Salmond's "hold Westminster's feet to the fire", Nigel Farage's "tanks on Ed Miliband's lawn" and a million other non-threatening examples of political rhetoric.
Well, while I don't think your turn of phrase is in quite the same common currency as "feet to the fire", I do think it's a little ridiculous that people can't use inflated hyperbole (even if it is hyperinflation) without being arrested.

TBF, I can see why it pissed people off! Even if the right course of action would have been to ignore it, not do a Streisand on it.

I tried.

I couldn't find the offending tweet.

The posts about the queen were mostly about blaming her for the shot down Malaysian flight. And also saying fuck the queen - which I guess they might be taking literally!
There was one about blowing her brains out within the ten or so that I looked at.

It seem, given Peter's posting record here, more than credible that some misery inauthority has taken umbrage at something he tweeted.

It wouldn't, as he intimates above, be the first time something like thid has happened to him

Aberdeen postgrad escapes prison
Very disappointed by that article. From the link I was expecting to see Oor Pete escaping in a Shawshank Redemption style.

Pushing that many people's buttons, people that are obviously gonna be upset by your views, you have to have been expecting some kind of shit storm.

I hate the whole idea of monarchy but I'm not sure Clare Balding (for example) is gonna agree.

I'm sure he delights in causing a shit storm, as do many others who post here. The issue is the state coming after him for pushing those buttons.

Fair enough, having just read through PD's tweets again I can see that he didn't actually threaten anyone, I thought he had.

Personally I always eschew sensible advice.
