Pancake Day 2019

The offspring forgot (and I kept silent as I fucking loathe the things).

I am hoping they don't come back from celebratory cocktails demanding late night battery. D-i-L officially cancer free so unable to be churlish and refuse to don pinny and brandish my whisk.

Jam and chocolate spread? Wtf.:mad::confused: no jury would convict. I'm enjoying the mental image of you almost fighting them though :D

He was on the phone telling his partner/flatmate/whoever that he'd got pancake stuff, luckily signal dropped out just then and he got cut off before smacking him in the mouth became unavoidable. I did one of those snort laughs you have to style out as a stifled sneeze when he phoned back and joked "the train didn't want me to have that conversation with you":D NO ONE WANTED TO HEAR YOU HAVE THAT CONVERSATION YOU FUCKING FREAK :mad:

I am actually really fucked off with this whole thing (not cos of anything on Urban!), I may come back later and explain if and when I calm down sufficiently. There has been a domestic pancakegate type thing

(I actually probably do not need to explain it very much other than to say that I do not have a sweet tooth and he thinks dessert is a perfectly acceptable dinner, add into that the fact that he bought the ingredients and is sitting playing games while I make him sweet pancakes while I am feeling as if I have been denied an actual dinner (I wanted mushrooms and cream filling)).

*Edit to add: agreement has been reached that I will cook pancakes some other time when I feel under less pressure to produce pancakes simply because it is pancake day. After all, we barely celebrate xmas, and when I insist on having an xmas-style dinner, we often do it on a different day due to his work schedules. So I will do pancakes some other time when I don't feel so stressed about it.

Gram flour pancakes initially taste like peas.
Can't say they excited me at all, but after eating too many - the last one with almond butter and apricot conserve, they at least made it easier to resist the last box of Indian gram flour sweets.

:D

Everyone on the train except you is the fucking worst.

I make pancakes virtually every day at work and have switched to vegan ones about 6 months ago. I find gram flour a bit too wholesome tbh (unless I'm doing something like Indian carrot pancakes, where it works). You can make vegan ones easily by just using self raising flour, a bit of extra baking powder, some salt, veg/sunflower oil and soya milk. The trick is to add the liquid to the flour slowly and give it a good beating for a minute or two when it becomes a wet dough, then slowly mix in the remainder of the liquid :)
I sort of see what you mean. I think the gram flour recipe is fine for savoury pancakes, but is doesn't really work for the sweet ones. It lacks the richness.

I pancaked today as yesterday was inopportune. This turned out to be a good move as I had various odds and ends that needed finishing up and made good fillings.

So I had mushroom and black-eyed bean leftover pie filling with spinach and cheese, gigantes baked bean with spinach and cheese, and some sweet ones, mainly lime juice with cinnamon, brown sugar and a knob of butter, which is a work of genius if I say so myself.

I atoned for the fact it's actually Ash Wednesday now by eating a few burnt bits of frying pan, as the surface of mine seems to be disintegrating :hmm:
